» Dissecting 'Doctor Who'

Bent British producer Russell T. Davies talks to the Los Angeles Times about his uber-hit remake of Doctor Who, as well as its two spin-offs, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. Davies also discusses his seemingly shocking sexually exploratory story lines, "What was conceived as a very radical and brave bit of political storytelling became, to my surprise, the lightest comedy on Earth… You don't get on a soapbox. There are other ways of telling the story that are subversive.

Not Yet, At Least

Russell T Davies put the brakes on rumors of his new gay drama. The wondrous British writer behind Queer As Folk, the revived Doctor Who and Torchwood claims he's still years away from penning the story, which will revolve around middle aged homos. Said Davies at a Torchwood press conference:

That’s just on paper. Yes, there will be [a gay drama] one day, but it’s years off. I know, it just keeps on getting reported. You know what it’s like, it gets reported once, and then every clipping reports that, and … and then it’s practically written. I haven’t started [writing it], but someone’s done it for me!

You can't rush lavender, we suppose.

The Out 100 blog continues to leak anticipatory details of the gay glossy's annual celebration of gay movers and shakers.

As we mentioned, the year-end issue marks Darryl Stephens' first official foray into the out and proud world.

Mr. Stephens joins other television titans such as Tim Gunn, Queer As Folk writer Russell T. Davies and uber-gay judge David Young. Taken together, the gay group - and others - are "The Serialists & The Channelers". Though he readily appears in the issue, Stephens remains mum on the sex part of his sexuality.

…We can also offer one long-anticipated quiet confirmation: [François Rousseau photographed] Darryl Stephens, who has declined to discuss his sexuality while playing a series of nuanced gay roles. He doesn't exactly talk about it, but he proudly joins the other queer honorees in our pages.

Well, it's a step in the right direction…

Forty-Something Homos Get Screen Time

Britain's bent boys better get excited. Doctor Who and Queer As Folk writer Russell T. Davies announced he's working on a new gay drama about mid-life homos:

"It's going to be about fortysomething gay men and how jealous they are of gay teenagers…I've been longing to write something for adults."

In the interview, Davies said that the inspiration for the new drama is a friend, a former Mr Gay UK, who split up from his boyfriend.

"He asked me: 'Why are so many gay men so glad we split up?' That remark's stayed with me for six years. I think there's a self-punishing streak in that gladness and I want to explore it."

A bunch of bitchy older queens fighting over younger men? Sounds like a reality show.
