» Kern On TV
Anti-gay Oklahoma lawmaker Sally Kern appeared on her local political chat show, Flashpoint, and proceeded to get into a heated exchange with Scott Jones, an openly gay pastor. Basically, she comes off looking like an illogical, incomprehensible cooze. Unbelievable, right? [Pam's House Blend] |

Fifty-nine year old social worker Ron Marlett announced this week that he'll run against the anti-gay politico in Oklahoma's next election. While he's been mulling running for a while, Marlett says Kern's anti-gay audio spurred him to civil action: I've just been concerned for some time about the damage done by extremes. I abhor hatred. I abhor hatred of people, of groups. I think everyone is worthy of respect. Marlett's definitely got our vote! Or, he would if we lived in that district. Kern (pictured, as we imagine her) remains unconcerned, telling her local NBC affiliate that she's in it to win it: "That's the political process so I have no problem. I'll do what needs to be done and the people will decide. That's the process." Let's hope it processes her out. |

» Judy v. Sally
Girl fight! Judy Shepard has some words for Sally Kern: "Sally Kern’s comments hit me like a punch to the gut. I was enormously saddened that someone—anyone, really, but especially an elected official—could say such mean things about other human beings." Silly Judy, Kern doesn't think we're human. We're terrorists, and terrorists are not human. They're heathens. [Gay Politics] |
» Snap!
Colorado resident Gerald Horner does a pretty good job of taking anti-gay lawmaker Sally Kern down a peg: "One of the biggest falsehoods that people like Ms. Kern believes is that homosexuality is a choice. Gays do not choose their sexuality, but many gays do choose to serve their country, their families and their communities." Chew on that, Kern! [Denver Post] |

Homophobic Oklahoma lawmaker Sally Kern has a lot more to say about the gays, especially the gays who give money for liberal democracy. The heathens! [POQ] |

I see no reason to apologize for what God says, that homosexuality is a sin. I will not apologize. I did not say anything false. I did not say anything malicious or hateful. They are trying to vilify me. That is their tactics [sic]. When asked what she thought of a gay protest in her honor, Kern lauded the activist's commitment to the first amendment, but still refused to engage: "…They really want me to come down and talk to them? It would be like throwing myself to the lions. That's a metaphor." Thanks for the clarification, Sally, we never can tell with you. Meanwhile, you'll notice we're using a new image for Mrs. Kern. That dead-eyed head shot really got to us, so we've settled on Medusa. Far less frightening, right?! |

Apparently they don't understand how we jam, because they define it as "the public smearing of Christians, traditionalists or anyone else who opposes the "gay" agenda." Actually, we've never even heard the term "jamming," unless they're referring to reparative "Doctor" Joseph Nicolosi, who refers to "jamming" as "the juxtaposing of the radical gay message with a pleasant face." Perhaps the CWA got their circuits crossed? Projected misnomer aside, the CWA stands firm with their girl Kern: "CWA is proud to stand alongside Rep. Kern and thanks her for the bold stand that she has taken for our state and for our nation." Bold, indeed - getting secretly tape recorded… |
|
Meanwhile, Victory Fund president Chuck Wolfe, whose organization spearheaded the secretly taped audio's publication, offered some forgiving words on Kern: Rep. Kern may not have realized the effect her ugly words would have, but she now has an opportunity to say to her constituents and to gays and lesbians and their families across Oklahoma, that she regrets the language she used. The damage is done, but her apology can begin the healing. A Kern apology ain't likely, especially since she refers to her gays and terrorists equation a "metaphor". She just wanted to scare up some support, she says. She's certainly scared up more than that… |

Anyway, Hathaway's currently in Los Angeles, where she'll receive the Human Rights Campaign's Ally Award. Rumor has it HRC has a hit out on me, so I unfortunately wasn't able attend this evening's festivities. Luckily, Hathaway made some time yesterday to have a chat with me, to whom she's always been quite the ally. We touched on some predictable topics, but I also threw her for a loop with some curve balls. For example, "Should Sally Kern be censured?" and "Does Hollywood condone the closet?" Hathaway handled herself like a pro, of course and I offer Annie many thanks for being a friend. We've traveled down that road and back again. Her heart is true. She's a pal and a confidant. And if Annie Hathaway threw a party, invited everyone she knew, you would see that the biggest gift would be from me. And the card attached would say, "Thank you for being a friend." Now that I've proven my gayness by quoting the Golden Girls theme, dive into that there jump and read what Hathaway had to say for her pretty self… [Image by Jeremy Kost] |

Kern insists that he's not gay, but simply a celibate metaphysicist! [Kern] said that he chooses to be celibate, but he is not homosexual. Kern makes sure to note that he doesn't condone his mother's comments, but applauds her for speaking her mind, although he hasn't listened to the audio. He also offered tacit gay approval: "[There] needs to be honor in any relationship whether it is a straight or gay relationship." Glad his mother didn't pass the insanity gene. |

Who, you ask, is Douglas A. Shields? Only the most important, powerful man in all of Pittsburgh: the president of the city's council! And now he's turned his epistolary wrath on Kern: I was thoroughly disgusted by what you had to say and astonished that someone who presumably took an oath of office to uphold the U.S. Constitution and the laws of this nation would espouse hateful, bigoted and un-American views. Shields rightly acknowledges it will take a miracle Kern to apologize, but we're hoping his righteous demands move the hand of God. He is, after all, omnipotent. |
