New York's absolutely, positively buzzing with Fashion Week excitement. To prepare for all the happenings, we had a little sit down with Valerie Steele. If you're not familiar with Steele, you should be.

As a thinker, Steele's elevated fashion from the simply material to the theoretical. Her journal, Fashion Theory, exploded the closet doors to challenge academics and fashionistas alike. Now in its tenth year, FT's just launched Russian and Brazilian edition. In addition to her ever-growing intellectual influence, Steele's published a number of books on fashion, including the titilating Fetish.

Steele's currently the curator for the Fashion Institute of Technology's Museum, which has turned its eye to the ever-present, seemingly contradictory concept of "luxury". Steele took some time from planning the next show - Gothic Dark Glamour - to chat about the connection between queer and fashion theories, who decides what we'll wear and how Calvin Klein shined a light on male vanity.

Read all about it, after the jump.

New York's designers, models, editors and drug dealers are eagerly awaiting Fashion Week.

Starting next Wednesday our fair city will become an estimate 4345% more attractive. We'll get a look at what we'll be wearing next spring. We'll glimpse people far more wealthy and connected. For one week, New York will become a glittering mess of forward thinking fashion. Rest assured Mao magazine will be in the thick of it.

The glossy's kicking the festivities off right with the release of their fall issue. As always, the pages are a cornucopia of cultural movers and shakers, including interviews with Diane Von Furstenberg, Joan Rivers, Elsa Peretti and Vogue's living large Editor-at-Large, Andre Leon Tally.

Though its nice to get insight from so many current insiders, the magazine also turns its back to the past with pieces on The Palladium, Halston and the NY Times' famed, late style editor Carrie Donovan.

Absolutely Fabulous' Patsy Stone may think you can never have enough hats, gloves and shoes, but Refinery29 believe there's no such thing as too many sunglasses.

In their effort to bring you the most up-to-the-minute styles and selections, the fashion foward website recently wrote on Super's super new shades:

Handmade in the legendary sunglass factories of Italy, each pair of slightly oversized frames is reinforced with Zeiss lenses and a gold-plated brand stamp inside. With so many hues to choose from—turquoise, cream, red, yellow, and blue—there's nothing to stop you from being a true Technicolor vision.

We know you kids are colorful already, but a little something extra never hurts.

But Does Industry Enforce Straight Branding?

British model David Gandy gets the work over in Sunday's edition of The Times.

Currently the face of Dolce & Gabbana's Light Blue Pour Homme cologne, Gandy and his package can be seen on billboards, magazine ads and commercials the world over. His masculinity represents a sea change in the industry, says Lisa Armstrong.

Despite the the lusty zeitgeist, don't hold your breath for any gay adverts - the fashion world ain't ready.

While we've been living it up at Gay Pride, models, editors, designers, fashionistas and general drug addicts have gathered in Milan for the Spring/Summer shows.

It'd be excellent if we could offer you every single angle of every single model's delicious curve. Unfortunately, we can't. Instead, we've included some select shots from select shows, including Dolce & Gabbana, DSquared and Prada.

Take a closer look, after the jump. Oh, and no we haven't offered any commentary on the cuts, colors or collections. Who the fuck do we look like, Horatio Silva?

Photog Had Own Style

You’d be hard pressed not to have seen at least one shot snapped by German photographer, Horst.

If nothing else, you’ve probably seen the video for Madonna’s “Vogue” in which the iconic pop star imitates Horst’s iconic 1939 image, "Mainbocher Corset". Not incidentally, Horst shot that image for French Vogue, just one of the magazine chain's international spin-offs for which he’d shoot over the course of his 69-year long career.

With his signature lighting style – he used four spotlights aimed from above - helped Horst turn subjects into pillars of personality. Even his still life pop as if they’re posing. No wonder his inimitable style influenced the works of Herb Ritts, Robert Mapplethorpe and countless imitators.

We may finally have the explanation behind Jay Manuel's reality defying hair do. While the America's Next Top Model co-host may have once chosen to turn himself into a walking cartoon, the homo's hair appears to out of his hands.

Manuel tells Canada's National Post: "It's part of the brand of that person. It's written into my contracts that I can't change that." Now that we know Manuel's forced to keep his fluorescentfollicles, the question remains: which of Manuel's many bosses hold the key to his queer coif.

In addition to his ANTM gig, Manuel also works for E! Network and host's Canada's Next Top Model. The canucks, however, claim they're not behind Manuel's retina burning style: "There's no stipulation like that in his CNTM contract, but I can't tell you for sure about his other projects." The mystery remains unsolved, but Manuel laments his lamentable look: "Right now, it kills me." Don't worry, Manuel, you are not alone…

Style's more than just fashion. It's more than just clothing, bags and all that other couture clutter. It's the details, the thoughts and the theories that go into the minutiae of our everyday existence.

Style's the painting you picked up at the flea market, technologically-advanced fabrics, an poet's sonnet, young designers, the way you crack a joke, the way you brush your teeth. Over the next few weeks we'll be exploring the ins and outs of what we feel are some of the most "stylish" people, places and things. But, never fear, we will be talking about fashion. You gotta look good, right?

One-half NelSon knows a thing of two about looking good. The New York artist and party promoter has made a career of it. NelSon's look didn't spring from some fashionista caldron. It's a plotted, polished piece of work that stems as much from a creative spirit as a need to communicate.

We wanted to pass his word along, so we asked Interview's Justin Conner to sit down with the one known as NelSon. Of course Conner had no trouble tracking NelSon down - those kids have been vamping it up together for years. And on this particular night, they found themselves at Mr. Black, where NelSon hosts a weekly Thursday party, "Feelings".

Get a feeling for NelSon's fashion philosophy, performative personality and stylish spirit, after the jump. We promise one-half NelSon will have your heart in a strong hold!!

(Oh, c'mon! We couldn't resist. That's our style. And we'll be flashing it tonight at "Feelings". No doubt we want to see yours.)
