A Queerty Promotion

Hopefully you've seen a show or two at this year's New York Musical Theatre Festival, at least so you can tell your friends, and parents, you stopped by nymph NYMF. But wrapping up three weeks of 24 Broadway hopeful musicals, NYMF is now ready to celebrate its fifth successful year by inviting you to relive that awkward night in high school: the prom. On Sunday, NYMF concludes the much-hyped festival with Prom 2008, the closing night party at Touch in New York City (240 W. 52nd Street), starting at 8pm. Tickets are just $40 and can be yours at NYMF.org, guaranteeing entry to a night of techno showtunes, a dance off, and plenty of boozing courtesy Peak and VOGA. It's been Queerty's pleasure to sponsor this year's festival, and include you guys and girls in the industry's largest musical festival. So, we'll see you there?

» A Gay Rap Opera … Musical?

That's what the new show Bash'd is all about. Meet Feminem and T-Bag, two talented Canadian rappers who tell the love story of a city boy and a country fella and what happens when, well, you read the title of the show. Perhaps you can guess what the drama's all about? [Jossip]

Stop Duane Reade Before It's Too Late!!

Martha Plimpton may not be a fag, but the fags sure do love her. Well, we do, at least and can't resist passing on a little Martha-related gossip

New York recently sat down with the Tony-nominated actress (Best Featured Actress in The Coast of Utopia, in case you're not keeping score) and we'd like to give her a Pulitzer for her astute social commentary on New York's ubiquitous Duane Reade pharmacy chain:

It's always a journey into the Heart of Darkness, going in there, with a long line of hysterical Upper West Siders tearing at their clothes and smearing themselves with their own feces. Here is the script:

Me: "Plimpton."
Duane Reade: "Clinton?"
Me: "Plimp-ton."
Duane Reade: "Crimpson?"
Me: "PLIMP. TON."
Duane Reade: "Pimpman?"

Cut to: Giant mushroom cloud signifying my own internal apocalypse.

I feel that Duane Reade is an evil empire, and surely there is something we can do to destroy it, before all of Manhattan island, perhaps even all of planet Earth, is renamed "Duane Reade." Let us take up arms against them and their hideous plan to turn us all into Club Card–wielding zombies covered in poo.

It's funny 'cause it's horrifically true. Sniff, sniff…Oh, god…they're in the hallway. They're in the hallway!!!

Dottie Maraschino hosts a cast of character's for La Mama's "The Heat Is On" fundraiser this weekend. Kiki and Herb (pictured) lead the host of homo-notables, including drama fag Christopher Borg, director and Yoga enthusiast, Matt Gould, and cultural aural art quarter, Origin, to help raise money for New York-based theater, La Mama.

While some gays will be helping GMHC fight AIDS, all the proceeds from the ten dollar tickets go to the experimental theater's HVHC fund. A publicist-endorsed message explains:

We are blasting off our $100,000 campaign to bring heat to our new Archive and exhibition space in the Annex building. The Heat is On! is a series of variety shows celebrating La MaMa artists and benefiting our HVHC (heating ventilating and air-conditioning system.) Each month, La MaMa will produce a variety show with music, singing, dance, sketch comedy, puppets, drag queens and more. This party like atmosphere will also include raffles and refreshments. Everyone is donating their time and talent to help La MaMa keep the Heat on!

Can't have the theater's make-up collection melt, nor do we want frizzy wigs on the up-and-coming drag queen's head.
