The Advocate's Thomas Roberts piece inspired a list of the out, not-so-out and even more not-so-out homo-journos. Hey, ABC's Jeffrey Kofmann, call us! [The Sword]

What would you do if hunky homo-journo Thomas Roberts hiked you out into the wilderness? Whatever it is, we bet you didn't think "Interview him!"

Well, that's what The Advocate's Sean Kennedy did - fool! - and got the 35-year old to open up on about his very public exit from CNN. Contrary to rumors, says Roberts, he was not fired suspiciously close to coming out. His contract was over and, you know, he had personal shit.

The boys then get into the reality of news television - and how it's too conservative for an openly gay anchor. In fact, Kennedy shares some interesting insight into his own experience trying to nail Roberts. For an interview, that is:

…When I first inquired about an interview with Roberts before he started at The Insider, a spokesperson for the show instantly said no. When I followed up two months later, it was no dice again. Roberts says he doesn’t recall being contacted either time.

This January, though, he got involved directly, when I learned through a mutual contact that he was interested in talking. Yet when he ran the idea up the flagpole, he too was denied. Roberts won’t cite the reasons on the record, but he was clearly disappointed by the decision.

But then The Insider gave him the green light, Roberts let loose and the world continues to spin. Incredible!

» Thomas Roberts' Knot Tied?

From a reader: "I couldn't help but notice on yesterday's edition of The Insider that Thomas Roberts, former CNN anchor, child abusee and [rumored] ManHunt nude, is wearing a wedding band on his left hand." So, readers, have any of you been invited to Roberts and his unidentified beau's wedding bash?

Does Gossip Rag Lack Basic Comprehension, Class?

New York Post just doesn't learn. After receiving repeated warnings, Rupert Murdoch's tab-rag again uses "toe-tapper" to describe a gay man. The not-so-clever Larry Craig reference first popped up with regard to Thomas Roberts' nudie pics.

Jeff Bercovici first brought the conflation to our attention, which prompted a response from the kids over at GLAAD.

Kenneth Walsh may have boosted his page views when he posted journo Thomas Roberts' nudie ManHunt pictures, but he may not be making that many friends.

"Modern Romantic" Japhy Grant posted this video in which he blasts Walsh not only for invading Roberts' privacy, but perpetuating homophobic stereotypes, ie: queers are all sex-crazed maniacs. We love Walsh - and we love seeing Roberts' naked body - but we've got to say Grant's got a point.

And beautiful eyes…wink, wink…

Meanwhile, who knew Walsh's post would cause such drama. Aside from Grant's criticism, Jeff Bercovici launched his campaign against the New York Post. It's, like, gay drama to the Nth degree!

Bercovici Not Down With "Toe-Tapper" Nickname

We hadn't noticed, but in today's Thomas Roberts item, the NY Post refers to him as a "toe-tapper". This, of course, would be a not-so-vague reference to lewd Larry Craig and his toilet cruising.

The paper's conflation of cruising and homosexuality perpetuates anti-gay stereotypes and straight man Jeff Bercovici ain't gonna take it:

It's far from the first time the Post has gone after gays: Page Six routinely refers to them as "swishy," and editorial cartoonist Sean Delonas includes a picture of a sheep in just about every cartoon about a gay subject — a not-so-veiled allusion to the canard linking homosexuality and bestiality. ([GLAAD] has complained about Delonas's spite, to little effect.)

Besides being vicious and utterly out of sync with the city it serves, the Post's little toe-tapping jab is also nonsensical: If the TV personality in question is seeking out sexual partners online, doesn't that suggest he doesn't need to resort to cruising bathrooms?

Good looking out, Mr. B - and, yes, the jab is nonsensical.

Bercovici's awaiting word a response from GLAAD. We'll keep you post-ed.

Word sure does travel fast around these internet parts. A few days ago, our happy endings included a blind item from Kenneth Walsh's website: "which media “insider” enjoys a little ManHunt?"

The buzz started immediately, with most people guessing Thomas Roberts, the former CNN staffer who poured his heart out to Anderson Cooper and now works for The Insider.

The gossip mill reached such a feverish pace, it seems, that The Insider felt the need to defend their new hire. Via Page Six:

We have hired Thomas Roberts from CNN for his journalistic strengths and integrity. It is unfortunate that after four days on the job at 'The Insider,' he has become a victim of this malicious personal attack.

Oh, please, Walsh did us all a favor, especially you, Insider. Think of all the homos who will tune in just for Roberts, whose (alleged) penis deserves more press.

Thomas Roberts may be out at CNN, but he's certainly in the DC gay scene. Well, that's what one of our drunken readers says in an inebriated email.

Apparently the homo-journo, who made headlines with his candid priest molestation-related interview with Anderson Cooper, has been living it up down on the Beltway. And getting into some go-go boys' belts, according to our soused source. We've included the his entire email after the jump. We'd edit it, but it's too rich to fuck with.

Coming out at one's job can be difficult, particularly when you work in the allegedly unbiased news media. A number of gay journalists, however, have decided that honestly truly is the best policy - former CNN anchor man, Thomas Roberts, made headlines last fall when he came out (and then again during his controversial conversation with Anderson Cooper, during which Roberts discussed his abuse at the hands of a Catholic priest). In light of Roberts' coming out, AfterElton launched an extensive investigation into the ins and outs of being a homo-journo. In part one of their two part series, the AE boys chat with some of the media's most well-respected gay newsmen (and, yes, they're all men), including uber-handsome Miguel Marquez.

Former CNN newsman Thomas Roberts makes no secret of his homosexuality. The man came out at a National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association conference, for fuck's sake. His sexuality did not come up, however, when Roberts sat down with journalistic peer, Anderson Cooper.

You may recall that the two men chatted about Roberts' experience being sexually abused by a priest - certainly a topic often - and dangerously - discussed in tandem with homosexuality. AfterElton thought so, too, and wrote a post in which they questioned why neither Roberts, nor the Coop referenced Roberts' sexuality.

While it was unquestionably courageous for the man to speak so candidly about his sexual abuse at the hand of the family priest as a teenager, there seemed to be a glaring absence in the discussion: namely, about how Roberts, as an out gay man, has been affected by the abuse as a grown, sexualized adult.

The AE boys recently ran into Roberts and the 35-year old journo was none-too-pleased…

We know you all fell in love with Thomas Roberts after he came out at last year's National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association conference. And you all wept as Roberts told Anderson Cooper about being molested by a priest. So we really hate having to tell you this, but the openly homo-journo will not be returning to CNN. A company memo read: "After five years, [Roberts] has decided to leave us, with intentions to settle in the Washington, D.C., area."

Never fear, however - mediabistro intimates that Roberts may have signed a syndication deal, which would be great because then we'd have an entire show based around Roberts and his sexiness. Perfect for a news-filled wank.

Maybe it'll be a talk show. That would be nice, too. Although, an openly gay man with a talk show would definitely piss of the lesbians. That's their turf.
