You'll recall that Truth Wins Out and others balked this month when news broke that anti-gay Evangelical leader James Dobson had been nominated for Hall of Fame entry for his long-running Focus On The Family show. Well, the deed was done last night and, surprise, the gays still aren't happy. GLAAD President Neil G. Giuliano released the following statement: For 20 years James Dobson has used his expansive, well funded media platform to perpetuate false and misleading information which contribute to putting gay and lesbian families in harms way. GLAAD urges the media to scrutinize and shed light on Dobson’s record of inaccurate claims about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and include an in-depth analysis of his distorted and defamatory statements. We won't hold our breath. |

No, he hasn't blasted Barack Obama's "fruitcake" interpretation of the Bible or constitution. In fact, this controversy doesn't directly involve Dobson. Rather, it's the Museum of Broadcast Communications who's to blame. As they do every year, the Museum has released its the nominees for the not-so-coveted Radio Hall of Fame, and included Dobson, whose Focus On The Family radio show touts conservative policies. And the gays aren't feeling it… |

Former pro baseballer Billy Bean teamed up with Truth Wins Out to combat homophobic reparative therapy. Says Bean: I am proud to work with TruthWinsOut.org to challenge the harmful myths and misconceptions spread by the ‘ex-gay’ industry. The notion that playing sports makes one heterosexual is patently absurd and I am happy to dispute this bizarre notion. It is unfortunate that ‘ex-gay’ organizations continue to cynically prey on the vulnerabilities of desperate and insecure people. Bean's video helps start the countdown to Truth Wins Out's new website, which activist Wayne Besen promises will become integral to fighting the ex-gay movement. |

"His true colors...are quite dark and intolerant."
It is alarming that a man with such backward views is a serious contender for the GOP nomination. [Ed. note: But not surprising] These are all true statements, but also endear him to social conservatives. |

Ex-Gay Ex-Wives Come Out
An enthusiastic Wayne Besen and his Truth Wins Out crew are taking a new approach to everyone's favorite day of gay explosion, National Coming Out Day. CONTINUED » |

Wayne Besen Not Having Pat Robertson Report
Though it's too early to know just how flawed the study will be, Besen's skeptical: It comes as no shock that anti-gay ‘researchers’ at Wheaton College and Pat Robertson University would release a study that claims you can pray away the gay. I suppose their next study will provide support for Pat Robertson’s theory that homosexuality causes meteors and hurricanes. "Essentially meaningless"? Ha! |

Truth Wins Out expressed relief today that Christopher Austin, an ‘ex-gay’ counselor in Irving, Texas, was convicted of sexually assaulting a client. Austin was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but received seven years probation, had to register as a sex offender and was ordered to pay a $2,500 fine. The abuse apparently involved a bit of unwanted penetration. Perhaps Austin thought he could fuck the gay away? |

Highlight Homo-Hating Past, "Medical" Mischief
Holsinger's got quite a homo-hating past, not least of all his founding Hope Springs Community Church, which believes it is man's "intent to reproduce the following core values in every area of our church life and remain firmly committed to living out our purpose in everything we do". As part of their campaign against homo-hating Holsinger, Truth Wins Out has released the above video statement, in which executive director Wayne Besen blasts the "good" doctor's medical approach: Holsinger is an ideologue whose medical views on gay and lesbian people resemble sorcery more than sound science. The last thing America needed was another deplorable nominee who isn’t up to the job, but this is exactly what Bush delivered. Besen goes on to say "It is clear that James Holsinger is to medicine what Alberto Gonzales is to justice." That, of course, ain't good… |

Is this the trailer to a horror movie, an action flick or a non-profit dedicated to exposing the controversial conversion therapists?? We're confused… |

a nonprofit organization providing outreach, education, and public awareness in support of families and friends of homosexuals and the ex-gay community. So, it's sort of like a club where openly gays and "reformed" gays can come together to celebrate…well, we're not sure: they're diametrically opposed views of homosexuality? The fact that one side thinks the other's going to rot in hell? We're really not sure… A spokesman for the Montgomery County School, Brian Edwards, insists it's the schools policy to pass out flyers from all non-profits, no matter their scope. The situation is brought to us by a Fourth Circuit of Appeals ruling declaring parts of the previous flyer policy unconstitutional. The Board of Education had little choice but to allow flyers to be distributed in the manner in which they decided. Though many Board members apparently disapprove of PFOX's message, but must comply with their policies. |

Activist author blogger Wayne Besen has taken his longstanding quarrel with the ex-gay movement to new heights this week by starting Truth Wins Out, a new non-profit organization focused at countering right-wing, ex-gay propaganda and also "educating America About Gay Life." That seems ambitious to us, but it must be working because Mr. Besen has already been painted as a Jewish Hitler by some crackpot ex-gay "preacher" named DL Foster. Despite the sound of progress, a part of us is sad that some day, thanks to the efforts of Mr. Besen and other activists, there will be no more crackpots trying to cure homosexuality by beating a pillow with a tennis racquet.
