Two key distinctions separate the otherwise parallel culture shifts: On-demand and globally accessible media has utterly revolutionized how we galvanize opinion. And unlike the African-American community 50 years ago, today's GLBT community commands intellectual and tangible resources that make it a sprawling, amorphous, international and upwardly mobile gatekeeper. Queer Cable Wars!
Christian Council Bishop John Humes, however, seems poised to fight an unholy war against American import, Logo. In a chat with Jones Bahamas, Humes promised to combat Rainbow Alliance, a gay group crusading for Cable Bahamas to include Logo on their roster. Employing tried and true right-wing rhetoric, Humes swears: If they are trying to think about it, we could let them know now that we will oppose it. Homosexuals can be converted and we must appreciate them as people, but their agenda has to go. No. We can’t allow them to promote their agenda because it is contrary to the word of God and it is contrary to our Christian values. We will not allow them to feel that they can promote their agenda freely in this country. Gay activists say that Hume's concerned about promotion of an "agenda," perhaps he should take a closer look at some other popular television shows. |

MTVu To Show 'Em How It's Done
It all started when the youthful, Viacom-backed network teamed up with Cisco to sponsor the Digital Incubator Grant: a competition "designed to mobilize a new generation of digital innovators." Last year's winners included the UCLA students behind community-based advice website called HowDoISayThis.com. MTVu liked the kids so much, they decided to give them a show. So, how do we fagalas fit in? Well, it seems of all the site's questions, coming out came out on top. Does this mean there are more gay people than any other confused population? Possibly. This show seems like a great idea. Although, one wonders how they'll make an entire series out of How Do I Say This? I'm Gay.? The answer's in the title! |
