Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson teamed up for a new country song: "My Medicine."

Country rock fans can't ask for anything better than this line up. Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson join up with Willie Nelson for this live rendition of "Highway Man".

We've been all over Wisconsin today! First we had the story on Elton John's $20K donation to Fair Wisconsin. Then we posted that nasty "Vote Yes" video. Now, we bring you what will most likely be the last Wisconsin note of the day (tear).

The Coalition for America's Families, the homo-hating organization led by the former Wisconsin GOP chairman, Steve King (pictured on a recent trip to hell) has donated $385,000 to the Vote Yes for Marriage campaign.

Shit, that's a lot of money. They must really want that proposed amendment that would further constrict marriage's parameters.

Ryan Foley (!) from The Associated Press reports:

The money from the Middleton-based Coalition for America's Families will help fund television advertisements meant to bolster conservative turnout on Nov. 7.

Vote Yes for Marriage in turn has booked at least $266,000 in television advertisements in the Milwaukee and Green Bay markets to try to sway voters in favor of a proposed constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage. The group released its first ad on Monday.

We're assuming that commercial is the same one that produced our aforementioned rainbow chunks.

Who would have thought that Willie Nelson would become so ultra gay-friendly? He never struck us as homophobic in any way, but with an incredible song on the gay movie of the decade and a newly recorded track, "Cowboys are Frequently Secretly (Fond of Each Other)," he might just beat Madge and Mariah Carey as the musical champion of the queer community. So why didn’t the song end up on the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack?

Actually, I didn't get there in time. Ang Lee, the director of the movie, did all the music. He's the one that called me and asked me to do the song that I have at the end of the movie, called He Was a Friend of Mine. We laughed a lot about it, sayin' we ought to put this song in there, but it wouldn't have fit. It's not serious enough for the movie.

We beg to differ. We think it would have been the perfect song for Jack Twist to hum by the campfire at night to Ennis Del Mar. Maybe that would worked as an subtle hint, successfully forcing Ennis out of his shell (and out of his pants) a little sooner than that cold night he was made his way into both Jack’s pup tent and his rear.

Brokeback Balladeer [Time]

Willie Nelson is a smart and brave guy. Brave for recording "Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly (Fond of Each Other)" and bringing the song and its tale to wider audiences. He is also smart to ride the Brokeback bandwagon all the way to the bank. Today, the song ranks in the iTunes top ten singles chart.

We were surprised to realize that Willie is not the first recording artist to cover the song. Chris Geidner sent us his take on the song’s history and we’re very happy to learn that Pansy Division covered the song in 1995, you know, when we were like, freshmen in college. Talk about before your time.

You can download the Pansy Division version for free off their website, which currently is down. Too many gays must be flooding their site for the song. Keep checking back though. It’s a perfect contrast to Willie’s version.

Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly (Fond of Each Other) download [Pansy Division]

Sure we knew the guy is a pothead, but we had no idea he was also a friend of Dorothy. Willie Nelson, who recorded the slow, hauntingly beautiful “He Was a Friend of Mine” for the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack, has recorded another assless chaps and worn saddle ballad titled “Cowboys are Frequently, Secretly (Fond of Each Other).”

"Cowboys Are Frequently, Secretly (Fond of Each Other)" may be the first gay cowboy song by a major recording artist. But it was written long before this year's Oscar-nominated "Brokeback Mountain" made gay cowboys a hot topic.

Available exclusively through iTunes, the song features choppy Tex-Mex style guitar runs and Nelson's deadpan delivery of lines like, "What did you think all them saddles and boots was about?" and "Inside every cowboy there's a lady who'd love to slip out."

The song might just start a new dance craze called “The Redneck Shuffle (Toward Enlightenment)” wherein a previously homophobic fella’ boot scoots across a crowded dance floor to his neighborhood gay and gives him a big old hug. Either that or Willie Nelson’s gonna’ get beat up.

Willie Nelson Releases Gay Cowboy Song [ABC News]

Aside from those few dozen Dolly Parton songs packed onto our iPod, we don't tend to listen to much country music. But we went ahead and plunked down the cash for the twangy soundtrack to Brokeback Mountain anyway. And we love it.

There are lots of familiar gay and gay-friendly artists on the disc.

Willie Nelson sets down a joint just long enough to record a cover of Bob Dylan’s "He was a Friend of Mine." But the song's inclusion among this collection instantly transforms it from a harmless buddy song into a gay love anthem. We can't help but listen to it over and over again.

Emmylou Harris kicks ass as always with an original new tune, "A Love That Will Never Grow Old." It's co-written by Gustavo Santaolalla and Elton John's old songwriting partner, Bernie Taupin. And as always there's the obligatory gay soundtrack entry or two from Rufus Wainwright.

But most impressive is Santaolalla's beautiful score. It'll make any fag cry. Except us, of course.

This disc isn't just for gay cowboys. It's for all queens. So you don't have to be Kenny Chesney to pick up a copy though we're sure he will.
