It’s hard to believe it was a whole year ago that we named New Jersey high-school teacher Viki Knox the Douche of the Week for calling homosexuality “a perverted spirit” and saying her own school “was going to hell in a handbasket” for celebrating LGBT History Month.
Well, now Knox is history.
Nearly ten months after school officials started the long process to have her dismissed (during which Knox was still paid her $70,688-a-year salary) she submitted her resignation to the Union Township Board of Education.
Rather than waiting for the axe to fall, Knox resigned and has filed a disability pension for “psychological reasons,” according to the Star-Ledger.

We’re not sure being a evil douche is a clinical condition, but we’ll leave it to you to decide: In a rambling Facebook screed, Knox, 51, said homosexuality “is a perverted spirit that has existed from the beginning of creation,” and a sin that “breeds like cancer.”
She also attacked a display honoring Gay History Month:
“Why parade your unnatural immoral behaviors before the rest of us? AND YOU ARE WRONG! I/WE DO NOT HAVE TO ACCEPT ANYTHING, ANYONE. ANY BEHAVIOR OR ANY CHOICES! I DO NOT HAVE TO TOLERATE ANYTHING OTHERS WISH TO DO.”
Does that include making vicious attacks on your own school and students, Ms. Knox? Because it sounds like your community didn’t tolerate you doing that.

And we expect these people to keep our schools safe for our gay youth? Good for the school board, but having been on the recieving end of homophobia from a teacher (who was a young black man, who I was convinced would have been an ally when I was bullied in school, but instead would LAUGH with the bullies when they taunted me and actually sometimes give them a hand shake) I know first hand there’s some homophobic teachers who haven’t been caught, and who are systimatically encouraging homophobia in schools. This is killing our youth.
Religious people, especially the Christian taliban in our society, have completely ruined society. And religion doesn’t nearly get called out enough, given the mess so many of it’s members create. We treat religion like some sacred valley to never offend. Ridiculous.

The opressed yesterday, being the opressor today just fascinates me. It’s just a facinating fascinating human trait that I really can’t grasp.
Can you image what LGBT kids go through these days? They have nut job religious teachers who think they’ll all burn in hell, they have school principals in part of the country recorded as saying gays will die of painful deaths and AIDS in school assembelies, and they are constantly bashed for being gay even when they get home from school. At 13 to deal with all that, while fighting hormones and figuring out who you are? Not cool.
If this hate were targetting any other demographics kid- Hispanic, black, female, Christian- you better believe the entire nation would have to come together and have a national dialogue until things get resolved. But since it’s happening to our gay children? It mostly goes overlooked by society.
That’s why each of us as members of LGBT have a DUTY to get involved in our fight for equality. To truly make it better for the next generation.

It’s important to note, this venemous “teacher” also went up to a lesbian student and told her that gay people will burn in hell. See, the thing with most religious people is, they can’t just ya know…be religious. They have to hatefully be religious, let you know it, threaten you with it, then cry victim when you say “Keep your religious BULL SHEYYET out of my child’s exposure” These religious loonies want to be able to have a free pass to be above rules and regulations. Why? because you pray to a magical fairy in the sky? Read you contract, obey employment regulations, or get your position filled by a far less high maintnence, and far more qualified individual.
We as a community need to be galvanized, and challenge homophobia where and when we can. It’s not just about us, it’s about creating a better tomorrow for our GLBT kids, as the GLBT before us ensured did for us.
