This short film, writes Queerty reader W., is what he came up with after spending nine months “in drug rehab after my parents sent me to three different places for being ‘too gay.’ It’s kind of my fuck you to them (cause they sent me to New York Film Academy after I had been home a week in order to ‘re-socialize’ me back into society.)” It was produced in 2004, when W. was 16. And maybe I’m just on a bizarre “seeing the beauty in anti-gay violence” kick (or rather, “seeing the sorrow and aftermath of anti-gay violence”), but I’m enjoying this new perspective.

and here we have again a (false) portrayal of blacks being violent! i am pretty outraged.

My thoughts exactly; once I noticed the racial dynamic (after about 30 seconds) the rest of it left an awful taste in my mouth.

that was boring. all he did was throw ice at him?

some observations:
miss thing owns a golf club — i don’t think so!
if this is a by-product of rehab you need to go back on the drugs. immediately. you were more fun.
thom yorke should sue your artless ass.

sorry, that came across as mean. i actually found it mildly diverting in a kitschy it’s-so-bad-its-almost-not-bad (but is actually god awful) kind of way. i hope thats what you were going for?

Sounds like W needs to change the battery in his smoke detector.

“…the beauty in anti-gay violence”…
What?? Do you want to take another run at phrasing that? Christ.

I think we can lighten up here a bit. W. was 16 years old at the time and recovering from having “overly concerned” parents. And the cast appeared to be tri-racial and someone has to be the bad guy which I don’t think the racial nature would have appeared to the child. The white guy obviously felt affection for the black guy and so would logically not be looking for a revenge fight. The black guy felt remorse and the indication was that quilt was at least part of the reason for moving out. So all in all a legitimate attempt at film-making.

As the film-maker and only having 3 adult staff members who felt comfortable portraying my film– the black guy wasn’t type-cast as the angry black man. He just didn’t feel comfortable in portraying the romantic relationship between the two men. All three got to choose their own roles in the film.
