Joey walked in on me with the guy I was dating just kind of sitting on my lap. Straight guys don’t do that. He was like, ‘Dude, I don’t care.’ I’m like, ‘Surprise!’ Joey was just like, ‘Dude, I don’t care. I have so many gay friends — I don’t care… It was a few months after that before I told the [rest of] the guys. I don’t think anyone was surprised.”
— Entertainer and producer of Celebrity Home Raiders Lance Bass in an interview with Access Hollywood

Joey Fatone has always struck me as a stand up kind of guy. Good for him.

How much farther into the interview did they get before Lance started loudly defending the closet?

I saw the interview and he said he knew he was gay when he was 5 years old which kind of shocked Billy Bush. Then he said he came out to his parents when he was 21. He didn’t say when the incident with the guy sitting on his lap happened except it was a time when they were in some kind of hiatus. He told the other members of the group months later.
What was funny was while Lance was talking about possibly having his marriage on TV because he always wanted to see a gay wedding there, they panned to the waiting guest Mark Burnett and his wife who were there to discuss the movie Son of God. And Mrs. Burnett just had this look on her face like she so disapproved. I was amused they were booked on the same show.
As a side note, Lance has an upcoming reality show with Access Hollywood’s Kit Hoover on Lifetime where they’ll put up celebrity stuff for auction. His favorite is a boot donated by Whitney Houston just before she died.

I just checked and it looks like Mark Burnett and his wife Roma Downey have associated themselves with some virulently anti gay religious groups. No wonder they side stepped the question when Billy Bush asked them how they felt about Jesus welcoming all people including gay people. I guess I wasn’t imagining that look of disgust on Roma Downey’s face.

Glad you mentioned that. Sounds like it was a good interview. And from what I’ve heard, you are dead right about Burnett and Downey.

Are there really people out there that have met Lance Bass that didn’t immediately know that he was gay? Hard to believe. Not saying he’s a screaming gay, but well, the gay is strong in this one.
