This change that’s gonna come? That Adam Lambert was singing about on the American Idol finale? Certainly he doesn’t mean the tradition of America anointing only openly heterosexual contestants to the top spot. (And yes, we know how dramatic that headline is.)
Lambert also resurrected “Mad World”:

gah! i think voting’s closed now. but current data is pointing to a Kris win. i heard though that you can download Gizmo (if you’re EST) and cast extra votes. i don’t know if that’s true or not.
http://gizmo5.com/pc/
my hopes of a gay american idol appear to be dashed. West Coasters, please don’t give up!
dgz
clarification: EAST COAST voting *appears* to be closed. WEST COAST is not. vote.
Tim
Vote West Coasters! I live in Ohio and I voted at least 100 times. I called Adam’s numbers consistently from 9 P.M. to 1 A.M. We need Adam to win!
dgz
@Tim: you did your part. kudos.
West Coast: adam is LOSING (according to dialidol.com). don’t let Tim’s votes (and my cramped thumbs) be in vain.
yes, i’m being melodramatic, and no, i’m not apologizing.
first — gay — idol.

Well, I just spent 4 hours voting my fingers off, and wading through a sea of busy signals.
Part of me hopes it wasn’t in vain.
The other part of me hopes Adam loses, just so he doesn’t have to release that Kara DioGuardi penned audio-abortion of a winners’ song as his first single.
David
I’m on the East Coast. I voted my fingers off during the four hours that they gave us. I wasn’t able to get through very much for the first two hours..
Adam’s second song was great tonight. I think it was probably my favorite performance by him all Season, and I’m a huge fan. That song that Kara co-wrote was craptastical. I think he did Mad World better this time than the first time. (I loved it both times for the record lol)
I want Adam to win, but I also find Kris adorable and I liked his version of Heartless last week. If Kris wins I won’t be too upset, but I’m totally pulling for Adam tomorrow night!
Dialidol has Kris in the lead (though only by a very small margin at this point). They’ve been right about the winner for every season they’ve made a prediction, I think. I still have hope though!
dgz
@David:
you’re right David — dialidol is basically always right (97%). granted, no final has ever been this close. but that 1 point difference still represents thousands of votes. and unless for some bizarre reason adam fans are substantially more likely to text their votes than kris fans, it appears kris will win. obviously the deranged fans of the gokester swung almost unanimously to kris.
screw you, america. enjoy your milquetoast acoustic album.
now, let the discussion/civil war over whether glambert’s gayness cost him the win commence!
Mika
I got the redial song stuck in my head. I did my part sore thumbs and all. Good luck Adam! I know that no matter what happens I am buying your record.
L
I really enjoy Kris’s acoustic guitar/cubano perc arrangements. But, to sing “don’t punish me with brutality” in such a light, fluffy way is criminal.
dgz
Dialidol says finale is too close to call… for the first time in history! however, Kris led all night, so he probably took it. i blame the gokey fans.
James P. P.
i think thanks to Bill O’Rielly… Kris NOW had a “christian vote” that didn’t exist before….
grrr….
Jaxson67
OMG that song is rubbish that Kara wrote. Adam can do better than releasing that crap!
Alexa
If it’s too close to call, it’s too close to call, and just because Kris is ahead on Dial Idol doesn’t mean he will actually win. It doesn’t take text votes into account, either. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kris does win, he would have had most of Gokey’s votes and people with no stake in the result genuinely like him. Adam would probably have had an easier time against Gokey because many people hate Gokey and would have voted against him.
FYI, Dial Idol has only been around since season four, so we have no way of knowing how close the previous votes were beyond what Idol told us, and while Kelly and Fantasia apparently won easily, season two with Ruben and Clay ended up as a statistical tie with just a few thousand votes between them. It was impossible to get through to vote that year because the phones were overloaded. This year about 1/3 of my votes for Adam got through, in season two I got in about 10 votes for Clay during the whole voting window, the rest were busy signals.

I don’t watch the show anymore (Sonjay or whatever the hell his name is did it for me) but if what I just read in the comment section proves true (being able to vote multiple times) then I do hope this show is in it’s last season (don’t worry girls, it will be back).
I mean really. One person being allowed to vote hundreds of times should tell one this is not about talent. It is about popularity. I hope next seasons’ finalist studies up on gay “barroom Mary” culture and moves into the gym now, pumps up and be sure to start of wearing skin tight pants with a sock stuffed down there to keep himself in the spotlight.
Good grief. I now know why fox here in NYC was hanging around the village asking the “girls” who was their pick two weeks ago.
What a farce. And not just Paula.

@Prof. O. G. Whataschnozell:
of course it’s not a “singing competition” as the judges contend. it’s about personality as much as vocals. but don’t assert that the contestants don’t have talent when you don’t even watch the show.
furthermore, voters have ALWAYS been able to call in multiple times. the point of the show is to create a marketable artist, and people who take the time to vote more than once are more likely to buy an album/see a concert. plus, how would you propose preventing people from voting more than once?
lastly, how trollish of you to visit a comments thread talking about idol only to write “waaah, this show sux!”
and it has at least one more season, as all 4 judges have re-signed (alas, even Kara). so, here’s to your continued misery!
Prof. O. G. Whataschnozell
@dgz: I’m sorry for intruding on your obvious pathetic life. How far away from your tv are you sitting during the show and last but not least during the height of the climatic moment does it hit the screen?
Sam
Wow. If as many queers took action to win our rights as did to vote for some screaming queen on a reality show, we’d all be able to git gay married.
Half Joking! But just half!
Queerky
The gay chauvinism aside, I do believe Adam is the better singer and has more charisma. Simon said it last night, the contest is designed in the hopes of finding the next international star and Simon believes in Adam they have found that.
Whatever happens, whether Adam wins or not, with Simon promoting him Adam will realize his potential. Clay Aikens, Kelly Pickler, Daughtry, Hudson all did better than the winner.
Jim
I think that they are both good, they just appeal to different audiences. It’s a shame that they can’t declare a tie, because I think both of them will have great careers – albeit very different ones.
We all know that “winning” isn’t necessarily the key to a career.
I wish them both well.
rigs
I hope adam loses, he won’t be nearly as constrained by the Idol vampires and that STUPID song from last night. He’ll have a better start if he doesn’t have to start with that crap
dgz
@Prof. O. G. Whataschnozell:
awww. aren’t happy that your trolling worked and you’ve gotten attention from someone? congratulations on your first human interaction in months!
rjm1060
love Adam for sure talent (although very tired of him already). his being (probably) gay isn’t the sole reason to vote for him. Interaction is good.
