For the past two years, the Advocate has only been available by subscription. But the premiere LGBT newsmagazine is returning to a bimonthly newsstand format later this month, representatives from parent company Here Media have indicated.
“Due to both reader and advertiser demand, we are thrilled to bring The Advocate print edition back to newsstands in 2013,” announced editor in chief Matthew Breen and publishing vice-president Joe Landry in a joint statement. “We remain committed to providing timely and in-depth reporting of issues important to the LGBT community and our community allies, as well as providing the best media outlet for businesses targeting the gay market.”
In his letter to the editor for the current issue, Breen says the newsstand version will “bring you more longer-form reporting, analysis, and opinion” with articles addressing “the stories that have always been of importance throughout our 45-year history, including the struggle for equal rights and the impact of the larger culture on us and vice versa.”
The Advocate returns to newsstands on January 15, 2013.

in other words, HERE fucked up. They tried to give the Advocate a slow death while putting all the focus on OUT…which is a boring as fuck to read. I already threw out the subscription renewal…and the websites for both mags are really poorly put together.

This is just more silly spin to lure back advertisers who deserted. The magazine is a disaster and no one reads it or advertises in it. The last issue I saw was about 40 pages and the interviewer even made Pink come across as boring. What’s the status of all the lawsuits that were filed against the company? Didn’t they also stop payment on checks for their writers? I prefer to get my LGBT news from Queerty or JoeMyGod or Towleroad or HuffPo. The Advocate is irrelevant.

I stopped reading The Advocate in either print or online form when they gave that bigot Michael Lucas a platform to spew his hate.

I quit reading the Advocate LONG ago. There are much better sources of news nowadays. And besides – why push the paper copy? They need to go totally digital, quit printing the thing, and focus on getting some quality writing.
