Remember The Advocateâs first issue? No, we donât either, but that doesnât mean weâre not happy to help the gay news mag celebrate its 40th Anniversary!
In honor of this milestone, The Advocateâs looking back over the last four decades to remember the forty most important gay movers and shakers.
Of course, the illustrious editors would never dream of compiling such a list without a little input from educated and opinionated readers such as yourselves.
Thus, theyâre politely requesting you and yours head on over and rank a list of one hundred activists, actors, authors and other assorted cultural icons.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
The top forty vote-grabbers get featured on The Advocateâs 40th anniversay edition, which hits stands in September.
Act fast, though, because polls close August 15th.

I can’t believe Jose Sarria, the first openly gay political candidate in US history and founder of the second oldest continually operating gay group in the US (the Imperial Court) isn’t listed.

Remember when the Advocate actually had some balls and wasn’t just another gay rag? That memory is quickly fading away…………….

Mishima? Give me a fucking break. Yes, he’s often listed among “gay heroes”ââŹâbut only by hip chic retards who ignore the fact that he tried to violently overthrow democracy in Japan, and died wanting to bring back the Emperor. Anyone remember a couple of little things called Pearl Harbor and World War II?
By riada’s standards we should list Eric Roehm and Jeffrey Dahmer.

Yes Mishima had appalling politics but he is an important writer; there is no contradiction in acknowledging his talent and deploring his ideology.
