The Back-and-Forth Television Ads From Maine’s Dueling Marriage Groups

With just weeks to go before November’s election in Maine to decide the fate of same-sex marriage, it’s clear the debate is going to unroll into a he-said she-said debate.

Equality Maine was first out of the bat last month with a television ad. Then came Stand for Marriage Maine, a Roman Catholic front group, with its misinformed response. And now Equality is back out there, clearing up the lies.

Their new spot is similar to their first — except this one grew a pair, calling out S4MM outright “deceiving” of Maine families with its lie-filled ad. More like this, please, but we need to go even harder.

We need a full frontal assault on anti-marriage disinformation. These ads still make it seem like we’re fighting with kid gloves. We are not.

Ugh, you can tell they are trying to hide the gays from voters though. Every same-sex couple in that add was two women. Obviously the sight of two guys fathering a family is too much for Mainers!

These ads will turn voters off for sure. NOt playing with kid gloves?

oh yeah, that is so positive.

Looks like traditional marriage will prevail in Maine.
