Well, listen. If Barack can accomplish this, hell, I’ll almost forgive him the Rick Warren fiasco! Go, Barack!
Let’s get rid of the saggy britches while we’re at it.
The thing about bigotry is that it usually isn't confined to just one group. So Rick Warren, who is a leader of the movement to deny gay people the equal protection of the law, also professes that Jewish people will go to hell. In this regard, Louis Farrakhan certainly qualifies as a bigot. He is a noted antisemite, but he has also been quoted (in the Washington Blade, admittedly long ago) a being in favor of killing gay people. These are not coincidences. Part of the authoritarian personality is to see people in terms of groups.
How ironic that while this post calls on three African American leaders to go – and take with them the Identity politics that they cut their teeth on – Queerty wraps itself as tight as a tick on a deer's ass in LGBT Identity politics.
Can't wait for the day when someone writes a blog calling for the three wise men at Queerty to go for the same reasons.
I don't think that post will get a lot of coverage on this site, however….
And replace them with who?
The reason these men have been able to retain their antiquated positions over the past few decades is because nobody is stepping up to replace them.
It sure won't be Barack Obama. He's not interested in being a "black leader," he's interested in being president of the United States of America. That means the next time a young black male gets killed by the police, he won't be out there marching against police brutality. That's what black people want in a "leader" and ol' Reverend Al is always there to fill the void.
Thankfully black people are the ones who get to pick black leaders, not white people. Sharpton and Jackson are here to stay!
queerty, you need to check yourself before you wreck yourself.
you should be ashamed of yourselves.
you can't fight hate with hate.
Whoa. Bye Queerty …
Please publish some stories about Britney Spears. They would raise the level of intellectual discourse after this piece of foolishness brought it down.
While I don't believe any of these men are perfect (I don't think they do either), they all have played a role in bringing black issues to the forefront and working on improving their cause. I may not agree with some of the methods or the views, that doesn't give me the right to say they should be removed. The Nation of Islam, which has a history of sometimes radical behaviour (and which religious group hasn't?) has been quite subdued over recent memory and they have helped many families and young people break the cycle of dispair and all that goes with it.
UGH!! Once again Some of GAY WHITE AMERICA now wants to shit on Blacks AGAIN and then when things don't go their way. They use us as a "Beacon of understanding" to try and say…..
But, Bayard Rustin said…..
But, Martin Luther King said…..
But, Rev Joseph Lowery said……
And what did your Mom and Dad say……..
HMMMMMMMMMMMM, We as a community will NEVER advance on a whole scale
such an IDIOTIC article!
What makes you think you can comment on who should/shouldn't lead a community you are not a part of? I'm thinking racism.
