The Internet Is Getting In The Way of Rick Santorum’s 2012 Presidential Bid

If Rick Santorum wants to run for president in 2012, first he’s going to have to deal with SpreadingSantorum.com, the website Dan Savage created that is also the No. 1 Google search result for “Santorum.” This leaves Rick with a couple of options: Paying out the ass to ensure his campaign website pops up first (albeit in sponsored links above and adjacent to the search results); paying out the ass for some black hat search engine optimization that will use link farm websites to trick Google into putting other sites above SpreadingSantorum.com (though Google and other sites and pretty good at weeding out these spam attempts); or, suggests Savage, “If Rick Santorum wants to make a $5 million donation to [the gay marriage group] Freedom to Marry, I will take it down. Interest starts accruing now.”
