If Adam Lambert keeps it up like this, the bookies will be right (and Bill O’Reilly will be wrong): the kid will win American Idol. Performing Tears for Fears’ “Mad World” (best heard while viewing Donnie Darko) last night, including his standard shrieking, Lambert will likely wind up the top vote-getter again this week. Simon Cowell gave the guy a standing ovation, for chrissakes.
dear adam,
if you read this, please sing at least one note under your break before the show is over. your falsetto is great, but i’m worried you learned your craft from a coloratura and/or whitesnake.
regards,
dgz
I’m not an Adam hater but I thought his Smokey Robinson cover was WAY better than this. Additionally, the very last time he says “world” at the end sound completely off key.
shrienking for this song works, but his range will be limited until he gets someone to work with him on producing songs that are not just him proving his vocal range.
This is actually the first clip of idol I have ever seen. He started ok, but what was with the stupid high pitched shit? Seriously, was that needed?
Adam Lambert is insanely awesome. You can’t deny his talent.
He’s on a totally different level than anyone else on that show.
The one thing Adam has (besides actual singing prowess) over the rest is that he is a compelling performer that makes the audience want to see what he’s gonna do next. He is already a star and it doesn’t even matter if he gets voted off tonight. He’s got a big career ahead of him.
I hate the shrieking, but i really didn’t hear it in this song. I absolutely love mad world, and he did it just i think.
Seriously, this is first time I’ve had a crush on one of the contestants. Damn! Can’t wait to get more!
Every time the camera goes on this freak, I get the strange urge to gouge me ears out with a spork. That’s what happens when you grow up on KFC….
Adam is the next Freddie Mercury. I can’t wait to see what he does with is career.
@Joeb1212
You ARE a freak.
Both he and Allison are in other leagues from the remaining contestants. Why this Danny Gokey character is constantly praised is something I will never understand.
I actually didn’t hear much of the “screeching” in this song. That last note was a bit off but it happens to everyone occasionally! I really love him and hope that he wins!
Probably the best singing I’ve heard from him, but his falsetto still makes me cringe.
Hope he wins, so I don’t have to hear him again.
@Gregoire: hokey gokey-if only you could vote against people
I don’t know why you continue to post these cuz they’re always taken down so quickly.
I really wish musically ignorant buffoons would just let go of the “shrieking” accusations. There’s a huge difference between singing (which is what Adam does) and shrieking (which is what most of you probably do when you see a spider). Just because a man is able to hit notes that are nearly supernaturally high does not mean they aren’t musical. I’m guessing many of you probably didn’t write off Mariah “I talk with the dolphins” Carey back when she still did that. That nonsense is/was closer to shrieking than anything Adam has done on the show to date. You don’t need to like Adam’s style, but if you’re going to comment on it, act like you’ve got some sense.
Shit.
@AlanInSLC: In no way, shape, or form is this kid anywhere close to the legendary Freddie Mercury.
@vernonvanderbilt: Hey now, I’m not a musical buffoon, I’ve studied it extensively. I think we can use whatever words to describe his yelping that we would like, including shrieking, without being labeled as “ignorant.” Just because he’s shrieking on a pitch does not change the fact that it’s shrieking.
definitely offkey but something about this performance is memsmerizing. I think I’ve decided I like him so much because he looks kinda like KD Lang.
I wish he was a woman.
Jesus, you people really need to learn the difference between “shrieking” and an insanely WIDE vocal range. Too much Madonna. Christ.
Ha! VernonVanderbilt: I just saw your comment. Amen, sir. Amen.
