Paul Merhige isn't the only alleged murdered gaying up America's most wanted lists. So too is Jesus Catalan, the still-at-large man wanted in the murder of transgender Paulina Ibarra, born Jose Ibarra.
As Maria Roman, a transgender woman and, like Ibarra, personally familiar with the sex worker industry, told America's Most Wanted that Ibarra (pictured) "had a beautiful future ahead." That was before the body of the 24-year-old was found in her Hollywood apartment, where "nearly every wall and piece of furniture was drenched in blood."
Those with information about the whereabouts of Catalan, who may go by Brian Nanes or Luis Santiago, is believed to be homeless, and is known to frequent transgender sex workers, are encouraged to call 1-800-CRIME-TV.

I feel for her and her friends, there is the misconception that transwomen are prostitutes in many people's minds. What they don't realize is that were there legal protections at work from discrimination based on gender identity these women would not have to sell their bodies to survive b/c no one would hire them in a regular job.
(not all transwomen are sexworkers, but probably most that are it is b/c they have not legal protections to hold a job to progress in their lives)

Queerty, I don't even know why I read your trans stories. Why, oh why, do you still think it's appropriate to list a trans person's birth name when it's irrelevant to their life or story? It's such a basic and obvious thing to do. What do you think that actually adds to the story?
For everyone that loved n cared about my aunt Paulina I just want to let you know that since July 3,2010 Jesus Catalan is now in custody. We are all very thankful and glad he will pay for his crime and although nothing will bring Pau back to us. Knowing this monster is behind bars gives my aunt justice and safety for other transgender women. Thank you for all your support and love.
