New "Normal"

“The Normal Heart” Gets A Dramatic New Trailer. Will This Be A New Gay Classic?

If you’ve never seen a production of The Normal Heart or read the play, do yourself a favor: turn off RuPaul’s Drag Race and go do so immediately. Playwright and activist Larry Kramer’s account of the early days of the AIDS epidemic in New York City is brutal, heartbreaking and filled with righteous anger.

Glee creator Ryan Murphy has taken over the reins of this film version of The Normal Heart, and from the looks of this trailer we could possibly have a new gay classic on our hands come May 25.

It’s got a lot of Serious Actors doing Serious Acting, sweaty early ’80s copulation, and Julia Roberts continuing her transition from America’s Sweetheart to Interesting Older Actress (we prefer the latter).

Take a look, and if you have any interest in gay history you’ve got to read the play. Now.

“The Normal Heart” is already a gay classic.

I could watch Matt Bomer pick lint from his belly button and find it to be the most compelling dramatic work in half a century..Gawd, I love that man…

And yeah, I have to agree with mtrav…It really already is a classic…But perhaps it will become familiar to even more folks, queer and non-queer alike, with this version?

It would have to be amazing for me to want to sit through another AIDS drama. There is more to gay life than coming out and AIDS.
