I know for a fact he isn't gay. He is the type of man, who, if he were gay, would have no trouble in letting it be known. I knew him when he was in Modesto, and still know one of his sisters, and trust, he is not gay. Sorry to disappoint so many of you and your fantasies.

He is not gay. There are many interviews where he has talked about having a girlfriend, dating girls, etc. In fact, there is one BEFORE all these rumors (while he was filming the Unusuals), where he was asked what the most unusual thing about him was. He said it was "unusual for a straight male to be a makeup artist." (It's on Tumblr, watch it with your own eyes). It's not even about being closeted at that point...that's either he lies flat out, or he is....GASP...straight. If he were gay and trying to hide it, why would he even offer that up? It makes no sense.

I agree with your spirit - I don't judge his work based on his sexuality.

But one misstep I disagree with: His sexuality is NOT his choice. Whether gay or bi or whatever. It's not his choice.

@Glennmcgahee: said: "If its in the Enquirer, they have proof to back up whatever they have published."

Wrong. The story doesn't have to be accurate but they insist on having someone take the fall if it doesn't pan out. The tipsters are paid for gossip and agree to take the blame or no money changes hands.

@Mal Tempo: The point is he is living a lie and making it harder for gay people by promoting the falsehood of heterosexual machismo. And i am not talking about the parts he plays. I am speaking about his own life. He is in the closet and it is not healthy for him or other gay people to accept that.

Wikipedia is NOT error-free, they sometimes use BS press articles and misquotations. The National Enquirer is the trashiest of the trashy tabloids.

On the other hand, people have intuition. The gaydar or bidar.
It is a feeling, subjectivity. My opinions have nothing to do with the trashy National Enquirer article. Renner pinged my bidar. I would not be suprised if he was bisexual, though I don't think he is gay because he seems attracted to girls.
Though I am not basing it on media speculation. What is insulting is the stupid reasons people are giving like he brought his mom to the Oscars and played a gay role. So what?
People should not be labeled by this. The media is trying to create controversy.

People should not be defined by their sexuality because one's orientation can be fluid. Maybe Renner has experimented or maybe my bidar is off-base and he is completely hetero. The issue is if Renner denies this...and hypothetically in the future hooks up with a guy...the media will call him a liar and a fraud when he is not. Only Renner has the right to make such declarations but we can still have our opinions. We just should not let the tabloids control our minds and thoughts.

I agree with you, about the tabloids. I know for a fact, that Angelina did NOT steal Brad Pitt from Jennifer. A lot of celebs get entrapped by rumors like that but it didn't destroy them until people like Jennifer Aniston starting playing along with the media's greed and spin for their own benefit. Almost everything you read about Brad, Angie, and Jennifer has that underlying misportrayal and contradictory spin. Jolie is an extraordinary mother, humanitarian, and overall woman who does not deserve so much hatred. The so-called nice girl is a horrible liar, fraud, and manipulator. Jolie didn't let something as trivial as gossip and presumptions keep her from the great guy she deserved. I can write an essay about this.
By the way, Jolie actually hooked up with Pitt about 3 months after his separation. Jolie did NOT cause his marital problems. Jennifer was not even dumped and not wronged at all. She threw Pitt under the bus to have that favorable bias with the press and remain the A-list actress with the perfect, lovable image.
It is shocking how his so many fans don't remember why they fell in love with Pitt in the first place. I admired his character and my respect has just increased.

      Anyway, I know I drifted off-topic. Celebs tend to be wrongly defined by media labels, gossips, and false images.
The celebs like Clooney and Aniston, who are just as manipulative and conniving as journalists tend to be the most popular. People should not define Jeremy Renner based on a National Enquirer article.

Larry Birkhead is gay paparazzo who had a sperm donor contract with Anna Nicole.
@i don't care:
No. 100
And the worst reaction is the "OF COURSE he's not gay!!" like it's just ABSURD that he would be gay. Ugh… these girls are just so annoying. I have friends who are like that so I go out of my way to be very stubborn about how they definitely are gay and make up a bunch of rumors to piss them off. It's like I don't really care, it's fun to speculate, until these comments come and then I really WANT them to be gay just to disappoint these stupid girls.

Wow! You know how disgusting you sound? I'm surprised you even have friends. I'm glad I don't know anyone like you, if I did, I'd drop kick those people to the curb immediately.

Wow! You know how disgusting you sound? I’m surprised you even have friends. I’m glad I don’t know anyone like you, if I did, I’d drop kick those people to the curb immediately.

@Cam: Cam, you clearly want this to be true, whether it is or isn't. Just because the Enquirer broke a couple of stories, you think they've got journalistic integrity? I think it's a pathetic rag, and your fantasy life is clearly overreacting to a cute guy who may or may not be gay.

Redirect all you want, but you keep doging the topic. I merely responded to you, that your comment which was basicaly "It's in the Enquier, therefore it's untrue." was incorrect considering
1. They can get print runs halted and lose millions if they make shit up and
2. The fact that they've been right about multiple stories recently.

You responded, by saying what I said wasn't true because I made spelling mistakes, accused me of making this up because I have a fantasty of this guy being gay etc... The fact remains, if anybody has an agenda here it is obviously you. I merely pointed out facts, you get your emotional panties in a bunch and lashed out in every direction you could. Since this issue supposedly has nothing to do with you (Unless you work for the guy and have some investment in his sexuality being straight) there is no reason for you to be freaking out so much about this.

@i don't care: No. 99, first, I'm sorry if I offended you or anyone else if I made it sound as if this rumor is worse than any others - and what that implies.

I do not normally post on message boards. You can probably tell from my long-windedness and ultra-seriousness!

But the truth is, no, I don't like this rumor. But it's not because of the reason you think. I know you won't believe me, but I actually hated that Jessica Simpson rumor even more.

True, every celebrity is gossiped about. But I (normally) do not read it. I'm no saint. I used to read it, until - without going into details - I saw up close how tabloids, tv shows, Internet gossipers, etc., take an item and out of human error, carelessness or simple greed end up twisting the truth. Or completely lying. My experience was very real, though it was NOT with JR, by the way. I don't know him personally (and I don't work for him or for his agency, either). Long story short: Once you see what's behind the curtain, the magic is lost.

I don't want JR to be a celebrity. I want him to stay an ACTOR. But rumors matter. They have greater impact now than anything else. They DEFINE people. Angelina "stole" Brad away, so she's evil and Jennifer is nice. Clooney, no matter how silly he's starting to look with so many younger women, well, he's just the dream.

But I don't want JR to be "the ladies man." Or "the partyer." Or "the gay guy." I can't even imagine what the rumors will be when the tabs get ahold of some of his interviews - before fame, when he could be honest and serious and no one paid attention to what he had to say except his fans. I know it's coming. And already I'm rolling my eyes. He'll become a Leno punchline. Or No. 6 on Dave's Top 10 list. And it could impact how seriously he's taken as an actor.

And THAT is why I don't like the rumors.

Now, as for how I and all the other stupid girls on here found this site: Blame the person who wrote that headline. I initially saw it by chance after Googling one of my favorite actors, "Jeremy Renner," in the entertainment news section the week his movie won the Oscar. I didn't Google "Jeremy Renner gay." Just "Jeremy Renner." This was the first time I'd seen this rumor, and I hadn't heard about the Enquirer. (I don't read it, remember.)

And as of around 1 am on March 12, it WAS the top link under the search for "Jeremy Renner." Again, not "Jeremy Renner gay." News cycles can turn by the hour, so I'm not surprised it wasn't still there when you searched.

Finally, please stop with the "I come here to get away from you people" and the "you don't belong here because you're not gay" crap. It's insulting, and it makes you - and my buddy No. 60 - sound like hypocrites. Also slightly small-minded, and a little ignorant of how the Internet works.

And to everyone: In an interview years ago, Colin Farrell said that while filming SWAT he and Jeremy went out drinking, and Colin got so smashed he ended up falling and breaking his ankle. (Or was it his wrist?) So that joke about Mexico, and spooning, and not remembering what happened? Probably just a joke.

P.P.S. There's probably no truth to this rumor. I say that not because I'm delusional, or because "I don't want him to be gay." And certainly not because there's anything wrong with it. It's because if you read the actual Enquirer article, it's full of inaccuracies, and that "quote" could have been taken out of context.

Still, notice I said "probably." Who's to say he is, who's to say he's not?

If he is gay, I'll still adore him. If he's not, well, sh-t, it's not like I had a chance anyway. But I'll still adore him.

Oh, and by the way, I gotta ask, did anyone see him in Twelve and Holding?

While watching him interviewed on ELLEN the other day, my gaydar was pinging left and right. I guess I'll have to go watch the film. I find it fascinating that people are still obsessed with sexual orientation. I guess it matters if you're on the A-List. Well, he's young and handsome, so he'll be welcomed by the gay community, unlike those of us over 40 with lovehandles. We're the shunned ones. Too bad no one ever exposes how cruel the gay world really is to men who aren't Abercrombie-Hollister boys or Anderson Cooper types.

This is the first time I've actually wanted to post here and I've been reading for like months. I am a girl but I just like the gay culture. I always thought Renner was hot from Dahmer and he sparked my gaydar a little so when this story came out it really didn't surprise me. With the way hollywood is he would never come out but it's still fun to speculate about it. And EVERY famous actor/actress gets gossiped about, Macey, so WHY is the gay rumor sooo bad? Leave him alone? Are you serious?

Anyway this page is definitely not the first hit when you google him. It's not even on the first page and I'm sure not even on the first ten so what the hell are you talking about? You probably googled 'jeremy renner gay' so that you could find somewhere people were discussing it and do your little rant. Same goes for the people who pretend that they know him. This page could certainly be the first hit for that google search.

So my main problem with these girls who suddenly show up at queerty to be like "sorry guys he's straight" is like you have imdb and perez hilton and everywhere else where people will agree with you so why come here?! I come here so I don't have to read idiotic comments, and you're totally just brining them on over. If I wanna read about how he can't be gay cuz he's too hot, or that I'm just wishful thinking, or that you totally know a friend of a friend who definitely knows he loves the ladies, I will go to those other places to do so. You know?

@Cam:
"Sexuality" was a poor word choice, but Sexual Orientation is what I meant. Does my comment make more sense now?
________________

No, it does't because Sexual Orintation is NOT the most private part of a persons life...again, to partially repeat myself. Everybody walking down the street with their husband/wife/girlfriend/boyfriend has their sexual orientation on display for the entire world to see. People only start screaming that it is private when there is a closeted person they are defending.

@Cam:

I didn't comment on your points because they aren't all that good. As I reminded you in another thread, even a broken clock gets the time right twice a day.

The story, which is based primarily on a quote made by someone many years ago, would fall under the "made in good faith" defense to libel. Doesn't make the story right, it only means you want it to be right. There's a difference.

No, because all the other stories were correct too. You can protest all you want, but merely trying to claim that this story is false because of where it was printed is the saddest attempt at deflection there can be. It was the same B.S. that Clay Aikens Publicists used to use, somebody would say that "The Enquier says that Clay is gay" and the publicist would respond with "Oh, the Enquier says it? Well did you read that he is also marrying a two headed alien?". So sure, they could deflect all they want, but the story was correct. So roll your eyes all you want, but if thats the best you've got it isn't worth the cheap newsprint that the papers are printed on.

So roll your eyes all you want, but if thats the best you’ve got it isn’t worth the cheap newsprint that the papers are printed on.

Sorry, I came back No. 60, because I felt bad about even taking part in this "discussion." That headline is horrendous, not because homosexuality is wrong (it is not, of course). It's because the guy's been in the business nearly 20 years, has only been famous for about 5 minutes, and yet THIS is the top story on Google searches under his name. Not about where to get his smaller films that probably didn't play in your town. Not about his leaving little, rural Modesto and going on to become not only rich from rehabbing houses but also an accomplished actor. Not about how he's been called the nicest guy ever, by EVERYONE.

No, it's this stuff, with that attention-getting headline that people with a lack of critical-thinking skills will automatically take to mean that he is, in fact, gay, and that he's lying about it to boot.

I feel so bad for him. Not because it's about homosexuality. But because THIS is what people want to read, WILL read, ARE reading about him, instead of getting to know his excellent body of work. Many people who don't know him, or don't care, will skim that headline and take it as fact that "the Hurt Locker guy is gay." It won't just include open-minded people, smart people, people who don't give a freak. It'll also be closed-minded people. Homophobic people. And, worst of all, fearful people in a money-driven industry who cast movies and TV.

When I first saw this last night, I actually laughed. And planned to buy the Enquirer the first chance I got. But no sooner than I posted here, I felt like I'd somehow let down Jeremy -- a guy who just wants to act, and to live his life, whether it's as a straight man, a closeted man, or a man who doesn't give a freak what other people think.

Yes, it sounds like I'm taking it too seriously. But the opposite is actually the problem, isn't it? Every single fan of his who did what I did ... who giggled and went "OMG I gotta read THAT" ... instead of immediately condemning it, then asking, "and by the way, did ANY of you see him in Twelve and Holding? In North Country? In Take? ... we all let him down.

Please leave the man alone. Let him live his life the way he chooses to. Just because he took his mom to the Oscars doesn't mean he's gay. Because he once made a living at a makeup counter doesn't make him gay. Because he might not choose to party much and go through women like Clooney and the rest of Hollywood's "bachelor elite," it doesn't mean he's gay. Maybe it means he has SENSE and TASTE.

Hell, I don't know, maybe it DOES mean he's gay. Wish he was. Like I said, I'd rather he be gay and keep his private life quiet than to fall into the Hollywood trap like Aniston and Hudson and Kutcher and Mayer, people who wouldn't be half as famous as they are without their people planting stories to keep them in the spotlight. Please let him be gay rather than show up at next year's Oscars with Britney Spears!

Better yet, please JR, just go back to normalcy. Take that trip to India, clear your head, ignore crap like this, get on with your life. And if you are gay or bi and don't want the public to know, may God bring you peace, my brother. Either way, I'm so sorry that after all these years, all your hard work, your excellent work, your struggle to make it, you have to put up with this crap.

And to those who keep saying the Enquirer deserves more respect because it broke the Edwards stories, get real. They got it because of a tip. They lucked out. That's it.

OK, I'm outta here No. 60, this time for real. I don't want to give this thing any more Google hits. Though I fear the damage has been done.

Oh yeah, and by the way, has anyone seen him in "Twelve and Holding"?

I didn't comment on your points because they aren't all that good. As I reminded you in another thread, even a broken clock gets the time right twice a day.

The story, which is based primarily on a quote made by someone many years ago, would fall under the "made in good faith" defense to libel. Doesn't make the story right, it only means you want it to be right. There's a difference.

"Sexuality" was a poor word choice, but Sexual Orientation is what I meant. Does my comment make more sense now?

I don't give a rat's ass whom Jeremy sleeps with guy or girl. Of course as a straight female I’d want him to be straight, then I might have a chance (in my dreams) but where in my comment do I sound like I "desperately don't want him to be gay?” I'm not the one posting stuff trying to prove he's straight, am I? If he is gay, so be it, I'll accept that fact because that's who he is. If he's not gay, I'll accept that too. I've been down this road before with other male celebrities I've admired whom have turned out to be gay, it's no skin off my nose. I still love them for the artists they are.

What makes me sad about this story though is that TPTB homophobes in Hollywood may have second thoughts about hiring him for certain roles now. I just want him to be happy and to be able to work as actor doing the type of roles he wants to do.

No. 85 · Amaya said...
The first thing I want to say is I condemned The Enquirer for trying to "out" people. Sexuality is the most private part of a person’s life. They shouldn’t have to share it if they don’t want to because it is none of our business.
__________________________________

You seem to be confusing "Sexuality" with "Who somebody is fucking". The fact that you think a persons sexuality is something to be hidden would explain why you so desperately don't want him to be gay. Has Brad Pitt hidden his sexuality? Nope, he had a wedding. Has Merryl Streep hidden her sexuality? Nope, husband. etc... So a person being straight is not "The most private part of their life". Every man or woman who walks down the street wearing a wedding ring is broadcasting their sexuality for all the world to see.

No. 88 · DR
@Cam:

I might take your legal references more seriously if you could actually spell the tort you're so quick to point us all to. It's "libel" NOT "liable". If you can't even spell it properly, I would suggest that you really don't understand the concept.

Interesting, you completely ignore every single example I put up there where the Enquier was correct in spite of the denials of the people they reported on...but you are going to deny that because I had speeling errors in there. fine, an Ad hominem attack is usually the last resort of people who have no defense left.

@Ahrean:
Jeremy isn't gay, trust me. I know it's a "friend of a friend" situation but I do know someone who went to high school with him and has been in touch with him recently, homeboy isn't gay. And what sucks even more is that his fans that say he isn't gay are going to be labeled homophobic for saying he isn't.

----------------------
I know who JRO.COM is and I'm gonna call out, Ahrean. I don't think you know anyone associated with Jeremy Renner, Ahrean. I've been a fan of his for a very long time and I have seen your name around IMDb and other message boards pertaining to Jeremy for many years. I believe you and JRO.COM would like nothing more than Jeremy not to be gay, as I would too, being a straight female. But we always have to face the fact that our favorite male stars may be gay. In the hetero world, we are conditioned to think everyone is straight because it's "normal" when in reality we never know.

I understand why he wouldn't come out if he is. He grew up in Modesto for God's sake. We have an LGBT community here, but it's small. I volunteer at Stanislaus PRIDE Center because I have gay friends and the conservative bible thumpers are loud and hateful here. All I have to say is if he is gay, it's a good thing he left. This is no place for gay people.

I don't care if Jeremy's gay. I will support him if he's straight, bi, gay-in or out of the closet. He's the sweetest, most talented man no matter what.

———————-
I know who JRO.COM is and I’m gonna call out, Ahrean. I don’t think you know anyone associated with Jeremy Renner, Ahrean. I’ve been a fan of his for a very long time and I have seen your name around IMDb and other message boards pertaining to Jeremy for many years. I believe you and JRO.COM would like nothing more than Jeremy not to be gay, as I would too, being a straight female. But we always have to face the fact that our favorite male stars may be gay. In the hetero world, we are conditioned to think everyone is straight because it’s “normal” when in reality we never know.

I understand why he wouldn’t come out if he is. He grew up in Modesto for God’s sake. We have an LGBT community here, but it’s small. I volunteer at Stanislaus PRIDE Center because I have gay friends and the conservative bible thumpers are loud and hateful here. All I have to say is if he is gay, it’s a good thing he left. This is no place for gay people.

I don’t care if Jeremy’s gay. I will support him if he’s straight, bi, gay-in or out of the closet. He’s the sweetest, most talented man no matter what.

It's funny your mention Farrell because my friend said she saw him at a movie theater yesterday and she said as good as he looks on TV, it didn't translate in person. He was VERY short and very frail.

Damn.
