“The Purim Superhero” Brings LGBT Families To Jewish Children’s Books

Cover of The Purim SuperheroEarlier in the week we told you about the Rainbow List—the American Library Association’s roundup of top LGBT titles for kids. Well, next year they may want to add The Purim Superhero billed as the first LGBT-inclusive Jewish children’s book written in English.

The winner of a national book-writing contest sponsored by the LGBT group Keshet, the book tells the story of Nate, a young Jewish kid who wants to dress up as an alien for Purim—even though all his friends are going as superheroes. (Such problems we wish we had.) But Nate solves his dilemma with the sage advice of his two dads.

Written by Elisabeth Kushner, the book features illustrations from Mike Byrne. You can buy a copy of Purim Superhero online, and get details on book-launch parties nationwide.

The Purim Superhero is available from Kar-Ben Publishing now.
