'The songs that I think are the most retarded songs I’ve written end up being the biggest hits'

SOUNDBITES — "I’ve never been a good judge of what things are going to be huge or not. The songs that I think are the most retarded songs I’ve written, like ‘Cherish’ and ‘Sorry,’ a pretty big hit off my last album, end up being the biggest hits. ‘Into the Groove’ is another song I feel retarded singing, but everybody seems to like it.” —Madonna, reflecting on her chart toppers

Did she write "4 Minutes"? Because that song plain sucked.

sorry was a big hit everywhere, curtis. it was probably the most played madonna song on the radio in the past 20 years anywhere i went. it was big in europe too… well, that could be the abba connection or something but still. it was big all over the place.

You rarely hear this from people who ACTUALLY write their own music. Only pop divas complain about the song the label forced them to sing because they were going to push it to the moon and make it a big hit even if it does look bad on paper.

"Sorry" was a great song. This new "Celebration" is the dullest, lamest, most uninspired re-write of "Holiday" possible.

And here I was under the impression that ALL of her music was retarded.

Oddly enough, I'd have to agree with her, though I don't think any of her non-hits are any better…And I've never even heard Sorry (so sorry, it can't have been much of a "hit").

PS It smacks of insecurity if you actually have to tell people that something you wrote on your last album was a hit.

i loved sorry. hated cherish and into the groove. i love gambler, but she might not have co-wrote that.

idk, it's all so subjective. i love celebration but only the music video version with the hard beats. and revolver. well, i like the demo version with that other singer and lil wayne. Her version is just meh.

i'm not crazy about music.

Hmmm I like what she does for africa and enjoy listening to her music- but damn she doesn't sound so intelligent when she speaks.

"retarded" ??

pretty insensitive + she sounds like an awkward teenager..

Sorry wouldn't be on her latest hits compilation if it weren't a hit.

@Faygala That must explain how one-hit wonders still manage to release a "Best of"…

I thought the word retarded wasn't PC anymore. Didn't people take a shit all over Obama for saying it?
