The Subtle Genius Of Dina Martina Returns To New York

After terrorizing the locals in Provincetown this summer, unhinged drag diva Dina Martina is returning to New York City for a four-night engagement at the Laurie Beechman with “Dina Martina: Ample Wattage,” running Sept 20-23.

The above clip, taken at Wigstock a few years back, should give the uninitiated some clue to Martina’s surreal style of “performance,” which incorporates unflattering costumes, unharmonious songs and incomprehensible banter.

But just in case you’re still scratching your head, here’s what Seattle’s The Stranger has to say about the Divine Miss M:

“[Dina’s] voice sounds like a cat having an epileptic fit on a chalkboard, her body moves like two pigs fighting their way out of a sleeping bag, and her face looks like the collision of a Maybelline truck with a Shoney’s buffet.”

We’ve got our tickets already!

“Dina Martina: Ample Wattage” runs Thursday, Sept. 20–Sunday, Sept. 23 at 7:30pm at the Laurie Beechman Theater in New York.
