Pop plaything Lady Gaga dropped this video on pop culture today, and we may never be the same.
Okay, we’re overstating, but “Bad Romance” is pretty tricked out, and we love how The Gaga is now opting for fingernail accessories. It’s a little Alien meets “Thriller” + “Scream.” And just to piss off PETA, she’s walking around in a bear carcass disguised as a coat.
Now, was that Gaga or Amy Winehouse in the last scene?
afrolito
Great video for a terrible song. She’s genius.
vernonvanderbilt
Great video for a great song. She’s totally genius. ;P
jason
Yet another female attention whore wearing little clothing in order to get attention. Wow, how original!!
Ga Ga is basically selling herself using the stereotypes preferred by heterosexual men. She’s appealing to men who would vote against our gay rights.
Julie
@Jason: wow dude, calm down. She’s an entertainer. And she’s very appealing to women like me who are fighting for our rights.
dontblamemeivotedforhillary
She is the Gay Icon! Lady Gaga can only get better and we will bestow all the Gay Adulation that the other bitches (Madonna, Janet, Beyonce, Grace, Mariah, Bette, Elton, Oprah & Donna) will never deserve for back-stabbing Gays even once!
Daniel
Amazing video. She’s one of the few pop artists these days who actually put a creative effort in their music videos. So true about Amy Winehouse! You’d think she’d just made a cameo.
jason
The gay male community keeps associating itself with half-naked, attention-seeking women with minimal talent. How ultimately sad. And how ultimately dysfunctional!!
sal(the original)
poor queens need to loosen their panties ….LOVE GAGA!!!!
afrolito
@ Julie
Have you ever heard her speak? Have you ever read or wtched an interview with her?? I hope not, because otherwise you’re just stupid if you seriously think she’s fighting for womens rights.
She’s a popstar, with a great creative team behind her.
Lucky Luke
Wow, so much product placement.
Julie
@Afrolito: Um, I meant I fight for gay rights. You know how there’s like gay people out there who (shocker) are women.
I’ve seen several interviews with her and she is hilarious. No she’s not specifically fighting for womens or gay rights, but she is certainly not hurting them.
Oh, and she is a writer and designs her own outfits so don’t even pull the corporate focus group crap.
Motard
GaGa is no Britney. She’s vocally and ardently supported gay rights issues from the beginning, unlike many of the pop “divas” lionized by the community. She walks her walk.
Even better, she one-ups the competition by subverting it flawlessly. Perhaps particularly poor readers of her pop-culture lexicon don’t get it — that’s why the jokes on them.
What does it say that she’s in on the joke, when some people don’t even get that the joke is on them?
jason
Lady Ga Ga is in this business to make money. If this means exploiting the dumbtards in the male gay population, so be it. There is an endless supply of useful idiots in the gay male community who think that half-naked females are worthy of adoration and commercial enabling.
The gays got sucked in by Madonna for so many years, is it any wonder they continue to be sucked in by others?
jason
Motard,
Once or twice is parody. Many times is exploitation and enabling.
Ga Ga is effectively using parody to promote male heterosexual fantasy. Rather than questioning the parody, she’s actually perpetuating stereotypes about the role of women in society. She’s no better than Britney or Beyonce.
Mike Fourth
The. Bitch. Is. Fierce.
afrolito
@Julie
She writes disposable pop songs. Give her medal.
I think her chief stylist Nicola Formichetti, and the designers who make the clothes she wears, would chuckle at you giving her designer credit.
romeo
That picture on the bed reminds me of a few morning afters.
vernonvanderbilt
@Jason
Reading your posts on this site, it would be perfectly reasonable for one to assume that you don’t actually like anything.
Ivars
Does Cher, Babs or any other “gay icon” thank the Gays when they win an award? Have they been to a gay march or HRC dinner? I think not. We need to give some love to The Gaga.
ASHY
Wow, Jason and Afrolito remind me of so many readers who leave comments on my blog. Lonely negative souls always criticizing pretty much everything. I wonder what really floats their boats, maybe Barbara Walters in a mumu reading excerpts from Larry Kramer’s “Fagot” would do the trick.
But what’s saddest is the fact that as much as they pretend to hate this and every other gay blog out there, while I will leave this message and forget about it, they will religiously come back here dozens of times daily to get their fix of human contact. I bet they even subscribe to the comment feed to make sure nobody disagrees with then, while secretly praying that someone does, so they can feel relevant. So sad indeed.
Turn off your computers bitches and go outside, you do know there are actual humans out there right?. I would like to see if any of you have the balls to be this bitchy and rude to strangers in person, because I would personally love to see you get your asses kicked.
Cheers dweebs.
By the way I thought the Gaga video was mega tight! (was that Perez Hilton dancing on the right in the beggining as the fat Rubber monster. I sure hope not. Where’s my vomit bag.
jason
The sad thing is that the gay community acts as a collective rather than as individuals with independent thought processes. It’s our downfall.
Lady Ga Ga is no better than Madonna. Both exploited gay men in order to get to the top. Gay men, you’re a bunch of suckers.
GayMontrealer
@Jason
I have to ask, with all due respect, what is your actual issue with Lady Gaga? Other then making fun of those who like her, all your posts seem to say is that you are upset that she is half naked. For a pop music singer, she has said more about gay rights then most gay artists are wiling to. As Ivars says above, she has spoke out at award shows, done gay marches, and performed at the HRC dinner. When it comes to top 40 pop music artists, what more do you actually want her to do?
Michelle
Talentless? Seriously? She writes her own music and is in fact so prolific that she has written songs for numerous other artists. I would like to se 90% of pop artists do that…oh wait they can’t. So what if she shows her body. She is comfortable with it and knows it will help garner attention. She has made that decision, no one made it for her. Since when to feminists have to hide away in full length parkas?
@ Jason…She has done a hell of a lot more for us than you sitting wherever you are pretending your are important and criticizing others. Also if you read her interviews regarding this video she is quiet intelligent and understands the satire of playing to expectation. In the video, she gets kidnapped by prostitutes who sell her off to the Russian mafia after pooring vodka down her throat. She is not just saying “look i am a sex slut buy me!” Sorry your don’t get it feel free to continue being a debbie downer and probably being unsatisfied with your life. Maybe someday you will have as much influence as she does. Keep wishing.
dontblamemeivotedforhillary
Afrolito, Lady Gaga gave the most compelling speech in Support of Gay Rights at the National Equality March – but I’m sure you were not there! Admit that you don’t like a white icon being a gay icon after so many African-American Diva disappointments.
Quake
LMAO @ Jason
If you haven’t noticed she had a man in heels dancing with her in the video. She is doing more for gay people then you can comprehend sunny boy!
ManniTheUnCanny
@Michelle: THANK YOU! You’re absolutely right. Anyone who says she is not talented has no idea what they are talking about. She is an amazing pianist and songwriter and, having seen her speak at the National Equality March, a fierce advocate of gay rights. I’d much rather see Lady Gaga acoustic before Madonna, Britney or Cher.
romeo
Just watched the vid. Fell out of my chair about 5 times laughing! Actually enjoyed it. But, I think the tune is an afterthought for her. Looks like her first love is the visuals, and horrendous shoes. Bless her heart. I think this is the first vid I’ve seen of her where you could actually see her face. Pretty good looking, nice figure, majorly weird, who could ask for anything more.
kai
this video as well as the song is pure FUN mixed with loads of subtleties….
there really is no need to get all fussed up about politics, guys, especially since Gaga has made her standpoint on gay issues abbundantly clear
and as to her walking or strutting or dancing around naked in this video: she sure can afford to
Lucky Luke
Nice to see she’s not afraid to hide her nose, as it seemed to be the case in previous videos.
john A
That B*T$H has an amazing wow factor every time. Honestly I think I may become a fan. You can see in her videos and her music that she isit afraid to be herself and to just do it. She takes chances!.. Fabulous ones at that!
Raffi
5th Element in red anyone? 4:51
jason
Quake,
What on earth has a man in heels got to do with gay rights? Camp isn’t gay, hon. Gay is two men in love with each other.
It just goes to show that the gay male community is fixated on nearly naked women in the music biz. Dysfunctional doesn’t begin to describe it. We’re talking serious emotional/mental issues here as far as gay men are concerned.
*J_C*
Honestly who really can tell if shes good or bad when she creates videos like this one for her new song Bad Romance; somebody ounce said lady gaga makes videos for the new generation teenager who without there pills there daily life is more like this and all her videos; Have to admit though her eyes do catch me as if she were looking at me….. wow
me
right now i’m loving her visual style more than her sound
Sam
Anyone else think she looks sorta like Courtney Love in those close ups? I’m talking Celebrity Skin-era, off the drugs and glammed up Courtney, not the many scary ones.
@Jason: Did you just really diagnose the entire gay male community with mental illness? Really?!?!?
tc in nyc
@Jason
Since, by your statements, we aren’t allowed to like Lady Gaga, Madonna, et al, who are we allowed to like and listen to?
Quake
@ Jason
Its not only that idiot, if you keep up with Lady Gaga like I do you would realize she is a fierce advocate for gay rights. Just because she loves fashion and half of her fanbase is gay does not mean anything
Hell I’ll still like a artist that don’t support gay rights as well. Her job is to entertain me and her fanbase and by far Lady Gaga has been doing her job. This is all I can expect from her. Just because someone is against gay rights does not mean they suck as an artist.
Lady Gaga loves the gays and she can sing, dance and use weird fashion which is always eye candy for anyone who loves clothes and art.
Nate
Did she have some work done? Some of the shots her face looks totally different than it did a few months ago.
Eric
Who the fuck cares? Like Lady Gaga or don’t, just don’t expect anyone to give you praise either way. It’s pop music.
Nate
I love her and this video. Actually all her videos are awesome.
strictmachine
thank you julie! there are queer women here too. note the little icon of two women together at the top of the page.
im very happy to accept her as part of the community as she’s made comments about liking women. her work for the equality march and hrc bought a lot of attention to our struggle. there’s nothing wrong with her being scantily clad. don’t see people complaining about the half naked pictures of men on this site. nice to have some eye candy for us ladies.
Lucky Luke
Well, her speech in DC was great. Crappy music or not, she is not afraid to speak in our favor, unlike so many gay icons , from who the most we get is “Ah luv the gays”.
sal(the original)
bitter queens save your potent hate for the real jerks of the world….gaga,4 real?do what u do so well (twist ya neck while givin saucy lines)against real homophobes
jason
Lady Ga Ga likes women? Ha, ha, ha. You mean like how Madonna went through her girl-girl phase in the early 90’s? Sorry, I’m not buying it.
The sad fact is that many female pop singers are part of a cynical marketing strategy devised by sleazy heterosexual men and their female enablers. It’s to use female bisexuality as a marketing ploy. It’s got nothing to do with gay rights but everything to do with porn-like pandering to male heterosexual fantasy.
These female pop singers effectively appeal to men who don’t give a rat’s about our rights.
Quake
@ Jason
She’s pandering to everyone, not just heterosexual men. Of course its a fucking marketing strategy bitch gotta eat and pay bills just like you and me!
Grow the fuck up and realize that life isn’t your playground.
Motard
What a profound tautology you’ve discovered! Musicians sell music! To people, even! And — wait for it — they’re using SEX?!
Someone phone the Grey Lady.
If Gaga is supposed to appeal to straight men, excuse me, but the straight men in your life couldn’t be more closeted.
Gaga isn’t exactly a magnet for hetero guys; at least the ones of my acquaintance. Who do you think’ve been behind all the snickering hermaphrodite rumors? Do you think straight men go for Thierry Mugler chrome bustiers? Or the bubble dress?
*Actual* sex appeal for straight men — I have it on good authority — might resemble early Britney, but hardly most of the popsters that you’ve listed. But I can’t name a single straight man who’s been actually turned on by Madonna since perhaps Like a Virgin.
Moreover, how exactly is it you’re aware each and every straight guy who’s into Gaga is the same Jesus-totin’ wingnut haunting airport bathroom stalls? If anything, I’d imagine straight guys into Gaga are on our side, in spirit, if not in bodily fluid exchange.
Jesus, get over yourself, Mary.
You sound like a crazy bemulleted lesbian separatist, circa 1989 — and even the lesbians put that behind them, thankfully.
Geo
@Jason
I couldn’t read all the bickering but … you should really stop talking out your ass. Two examples of Lady Gaga standing up and acknowledging the gays in one story … performing for the HRC dinner and thanking “God and the Gays” for an award

Michael vdB
I wonder who is being more of a attention whore…Lady Gaga or Jason? lol. Seriously…give it a rest. Just because you don’t like her doesn’t mean the rest of the world has to have the same opinion. Regardless of what she thinks about gay people or gay rights she has brought some interesting change to a dull music scene that has been dominated mostly by hip hop and R&B. I am all for the best of many types of music (Jazz, Blues, and the like) but I also love a song with some bass and a catchy tune. Some people need to get out of their self-centred look of how the world should run and actually smell the flowers that are sitting right in front of their faces. Not comparing Lady Gaga to flowers…. Think of the best things in life….don’t always look for the worst.
jason
One of the problems with the gay male community is that you’ve become enablers of male heterosexual fantasy. Rather than support openly gay or bisexual male artists, you misguidedly support fake bisexual females (with not much clothes on), a core fetish of sleazy straight guys who don’t give a rat’s about our rights.
You truly are a dysfunctional collective.
jason
So she thanked the gays. Wow, how innovative!!!! How ground-breaking!!!! Fat lot of good it did for gay marriage in Maine….
vernonvanderbilt
Jason, seriously, you need to get laid. Take that stick out of your ass and put a dick there instead.
Quake
@ Jason
So your blaming her for the loss in Maine? Take some Ambien and go to sleep. You know nothing about politics or how to even form a proper argument.
JASON
I am a douchebag with no life. Sorry.
Michelle
Jason…what is to say those of us here do not also support gay musicians? You are making a lot of assumptions and hating on your own community. No one here looks like more of an ass than you. One day you might grow up (I really hope you are still in your teens so that you have an excuse. When you do, you will realize that being a jerk that only tears down everyone around them is NOT constructive. Not only is the gay community in this fight TOGETHER, we also have to include the rest of the world. I am sorry you are bitter about Maine…guess what? We all are. Rather than lashing out most people know how to move forward and continue fighting with hope and positivity. Sorry you are so lost.
Jacqui Smith
Right now I’m loving her visual style more than her sound.
redball81
Lady Gaga has brought us OPULENCE EXTRAVAGANZA.
She is serving couture iconography, performance art, storytelling, diva fierceness, and camp (“I’m a free bitch, baby”).
There are so many scenes here you could literally frame as artwork. Beautiful, creepy, visually arresting tapestries.
She uses music video the way a painter uses canvas. A real artist.
I? cannot wait to see more of her stuff.
Carlos
I like the song, i just don’t dig the video direction / edit.
Lots of unconnected pieces of art.
Jake
I feel that this is the first video from her when everything fell into place. Not that it wasn’t fun to watch her get her footing…but this video is leagues ahead of her others. Every musician has their place, and I’m glad Gaga was able to shake up the industry after it had cooled so much this decade. It’s funny that she’s no so much of a revelation in Europe as in the US because their pop scene is filled with quirky space creatures making visually striking videos.
As for the strange ‘straight male tyranny’ critiques, sometimes people (especially good looking popstars like Gaga and Britney) prefer themselves to be half-naked…no sleazy heterosexual puppet masters needed. And to counter the ‘it’s dysfuntional gay men go crazy over female artists parading to straight men’s fantasy’…think about professional wrestling or cage fighting or the like…sweaty dudes wearing next to nothing (the poster for a WWE wrestler and a gay male pornstar share a lot) getting aggressive and physical with each other. Does this mean it’s dysfuntional for straight men to like wrestling when it’s catering to gay men’s fantasy?
Jay Pat
love the product placement
Chaney Houser
I just love Lady Gaga, she’s such a great star and a true talent! I also love how she supports the gays. The biggest stars and divas have supported gays through out so many years. Madonna, Britney Spears, Bette Midler, Diana Ross, Beyonce, Pink, Taylor Swift, Kathy Griffin, Chealsey Handler, Megan Fox, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Brad and Ang, Meryl Streep, P-Diddy, Green Day! The list just goes on. I think it’s great that gay culture is getting so much accepted and every year more people get more open minded.
CJ
Lady Gaga is a true entertainer. She’s not afraid to take chances and she sticks to her guns. She’s written countless songs for other artists as well, so I don’t know where people are getting the uncreative bit from.
She’s participated in countless LGBT efforts, and I find it hard to believe that anyone could say otherwise unless they’re just trying to be contrary.
Oh, and Jason? What’s wrong with her being half-naked? It’s the human body. Get over it.
Vanessa
Her music is bland beyond belief, and her Matthew Barney, 2001 etc rip-offs don’t say much for her creativity, either. The new song is also outdated 80s stuff.
Yawn
