This guy on PrEP likes to party and he’s not gonna let you slut-shame him. Public Health Solutions has released a pro-PrEP ad and, well, see for yourself.
We’re all about getting the word out, but we can’t believe nobody caught the link between a young, hot gay guy saying he “likes to party” and the link to PnP (i.e. crystal meth) that’s so closely aligned with “partying.”
It’s an interesting concept, but we’re a bit…meh on the execution.

That’s gay porn star JD Phoenix.

He’s got a great point: straight guys banging as many women as they can are virile studs – when we do the same, we are damaged, sex-crazed sluts. Interesting how the slut/whore label applies to women and gay men and not to straight guys.
trelin
Alas, we insult our own community. Mind you, a lot of the people that slut-shame are secretly desiring to be do it themselves, but aren’t confident enough. It is unfortunately that our community had a very fucked up way of “coming into our own.” It’s nearly impossible for somebody to grow up gay without hearing insults, stigma, and religious-bias.
A heterosexual male doesn’t really encounter insults in regards to their sexuality. Heterosexual female’s do, homosexuals do.
lauraspencer
The average straight guy does not have the number of sex partners over his lifetime that the average gay guy does. Statistically, the more partners you have the higher the risk.
barkomatic
I don’t see anything wrong with the ad. I think there is ridiculous shaming from within the gay community about having sex. Don’t let some narrow minded puritanical guy shame you into not taking a drug that could save your life.
Aromaeus
I’ll stick to condoms and regular testing.
HKfCA
@Bauhaus: a sex crazed slut is someone gay/straight who knowingly engages in disease spreading, unsafe sex. Its not about how many people you bang. Yeah there is PrEP, but how about all the other anal, fecal related diseases your can get through through unsafe sex. I do my share of sleeping around but it disgusts me how often i see guys looking for “anon cum dumps,” and “door unlocked, face down ass up, breed and go” things on a regular basis. It is not homophobia to call such people out.
Bauhaus
@lauraspencer:
Hmm. I wonder if that’s true about the number of sex partners over a lifetime. Personally, I was having frequent sex in high school and college, but I didn’t have what I’d consider to be a lot of partners. My straight male friends hooked-up for sex much more frequently than I did, even when they had girlfriends. We all know [average] straight married men cheat, so I wouldn’t bet on the average straight man having fewer sexual partners than the average gay man.
Josh447
It’s called being human. Love your humanity. Dismiss the inhumane. Be virile. Live through your own life force. Don’t rile your own self hood with external distortion. And be free.
Ronnyboy
@HKfCA:Get vaccinated and regularly texted and you’ll be fine. Most on PreP do.
Bauhaus
@HKfCA:
I condone safe sex. I was commenting on the double standard he pointed out. It stems from shaming women and gays for having/acting on their sexuality.
Brian
There’s a difference between acting on my sexuality and being a slut. I may act on my sexuality every few months but if I were doing it with 10 guys in a dark room every weekend, that makes me a slut.
Learn the difference between sexuality and slut.
lauraspencer
@Bauhaus:
This is from 2011, but even if you add more partners it still doesn’t come close to gay men.
https://drjengunter.wordpress.com/2011/12/03/how-many-sex-partners-do-people-really-have/
I remember years ago when I was 26 talking to a 27 year old straight male friend of mine. He was bragging that he had slept with a lot of women and I asked when he started sleeping with women. He said the first girl he hooked up with was when he was 15. So I asked him in 12 years how many girls had he slept with and he said 20.
I laughed! I never slept with anyone until I was 22 when I came out. In 4 years I had slept with 3 to 4 times as many partners as my straight friend who had been sleeping around for 11 years!
And I’m an okay looking guy. Not everyone’s type, but can turn a head or two. So if I was that “successful” I can’t imagine what other gay guys were getting.
Let’s not forget that straight men have to deal with women and their rules. A gay guy can go on 5 first dates and have sex with every guy. A straight guy can go on 5 dates and have sex with 1 girl.

Sexuality is a bell curve. The most loudly judgemental have quietly been to the far ends. I’m backing down the curve now because I’m tired of it, but I have burned up the other side in my time. It’s not my place to judge, and I’m glad this is here now. Enjoy it.
Giancarlo85
I condone safe sex.
The manufacturer of PrEP made it clear that it is best combined with other safe sex practices. I doubt quite a few on PrEP are engaging in other safe sex practices, in fact are constantly fucking bareback.
@HKfCA: One can look at various gay dating/hook-up apps and websites to see that anon cum dump nonsense.
Our community is having a major health crisis with exploding rates of HIV, various other STIs and the emergence of strains of drug resistant diseases. PrEP isn’t going to protect us. Changing attitudes will help our community… but that’s not going to happen.
Some gay men will call me a prude… simply because I look out for my health. They’ll insult, get catty and defend their right to fuck raw with whoever they please. I can’t stop them, but I can only state the truth.
Brian
Promiscuity is not a bell curve. Promiscuity is a choice that one makes. Choice, choice, choice – don’t deny it. You either choose to do something or you don’t.
I think it’s hilarious how gay-identifying men attempt to justify their promiscuity by saying “oh, but it’s my sexuality”. No it isn’t. Your sexuality is quite separate from your promiscuity. Sexuality is innate, promiscuity is a choice.
No wonder so many gay-identifying men met a terrible end with the AIDS crisis. It was the result of reckless abandon, of submitting one’s loins to the false promise that one had a right to express one’s sexuality. What they failed to tell you was that you were filling their bank accounts with every purchase of poppers.
xzall
@lauraspencer: @lauraspencer: This sounds about right. The average straight guy has to deal with women who still have more scruples not to mention worries about their safety that they’re not jumping into sex with every guy they meet on an app. Even on Tinder, there’s more looking and swiping than actual hooking up. And this is comparing average straight guy to average gay guy. Not rock stars, NBA players or celebrity players.
The comparison also falls apart based on age as well. At some point the straight guy is expected to settle down, have kids and discontinue partying so their hooking up days are numbered. Even if there’s cheating, it doesn’t equal the amount of sex partners a gay guy can pull.
JerseyMike
Never let anyone shame you into NOT protecting yourself. Taking prep DOES NOT turn you into a THOT.. people need to protect themselves by any means necessary.

@Brian: Funny. By calling gay men this “gay identifying” nonsense you are suggesting that sexual orientation is a choice. Stop using the word “identifying”.
theszak
The Strategy. BEFORE sex get tested TOGETHER for A VARIETY OF STIs then make an INFORMED decision, google… tested together before sex
John
While PreP might be a good thing some aren’t being responsible with it. Yes, it passed FDA short term tests, who is to say what happens with long term use? What they have said is possibly liver issues, ummm gays the way many of you drink, your liver may already be comprimised. I have met guys who are all being “creative” with their cycles on/off with PreP who are making statements that aren’t necessarily true or accurate. Remember big pharma creates “customers” not cures so this company can’t get the whole gay communuty by selling us HIV drugs they will scare/market us something to supposedly prevent it. Your telling me big pharma can create a prevention but not a cure? follow the money and worry about the long term affects continue to wrap the willie.

@Brian: By your logic, alcoholism is a choice. Compulsive gambling is a choice. Overeating is a choice. There is no compulsion.
And by that logic, Brian, your sexuality is a choice. You could choose to be straight. Lots of people try this, and they ruin their lives.
We are given predisposition and compulsion. Most of the time, it’s unhealthy. People who live well learn to contain their compulsions to avoid harmful consequences.
Prep is a tool for containment. Some people need it. I’m glad they have it. Best not to judge.

@Giancarlo85: The Gay Pope, POPE GIANCARLO the 85th, has spoken!
robho3
I think maybe the word ‘party’ should not had been used
onthemark
@robho3: That’s what bothered me too. Is “party” now an automatic reference to using meth?
Ugh. If I throw a birthday party for a gay guy do I need to serve meth? And have enough condoms and lube for an orgy? Or do the condoms not matter nowadays?
Doughosier
@lauraspencer: I had a similar experience. I was talking to a straight married friend and I asked him how many women he’d had sex with and he said 12. I almost did a spit take.
alphacentauri
Meh, he’ll eventually become HIV+ then if he is not already, and he’ll get other STDs.
Bauhaus
@lauraspencer:
Must say the numbers in the study were surprising. Got a chuckle from reading the comments about the article. I remember reading somewhere that we have more frequent sex than straight men, which isn’t surprising at all.
Giancarlo85
@Homo Erectus: the nasty homophobe speaks. Nobody cares.
Thanks for proving my point.
onthemark
@Homo Erectus: “The Gay Pope, POPE GIANCARLO the 85th, has spoken!”
That’s very unfair to the real pope. At least Pope Francis was actually elected by… well, somebody… a bunch of men in dresses and pointy red hats.
Nobody elected Pope Giancarlo to anything, he’s totally self-appointed!
Brian
@curan: Alcoholism is an addiction but the choice to start drinking alcohol for the first time is not an addiction. Same with drugs such as crystal meth, marijuana etc.
The idea that being promiscuous is something that you can’t control is a sad, pathetic excuse for reckless behavior. Yes, you can control it. You can control it by avoiding situations where promiscuity is promoted, such as gay sex clubs.
onthemark
@curan: @Brian: Both of you are using an analogy that doesn’t quite fit.
How about this: An alcoholic who doesn’t admit he’s an alcoholic. He’s drinking uncontrollably. In reality, he IS an alcoholic. But he doesn’t yet “identify” as an alcoholic.
As opposed to… an alcoholic who finally admits he’s an alcoholic. Even if he doesn’t act on that knowledge, he now “identifies” as an alcoholic so his thinking about it has changed.
In the real world, yes, he was an alcoholic all along. What changed was the self-image.
Realityis
This is such a stupid commercial… First off, as someone noted above, this guy is a porn actor. So the average guy probably shouldn’t take advice from him.
Second, it would have been a much more powerful message if he had taken the pill and held up a condom. This is the way PrEP is intended by the manufacturer.
Third, it’s funny how a few days ago Queerty puts up an article about VAT. This is the excess hard fat in the stomach area. I suffer from this. There is no cure for this. Why would they all of a sudden put this up there after years of nothing regarding lipodystrophy? Could it be because some PrEP users are starting to get it… oh well, we tried to warn you.
Knowing what HIV meds have done to me, I would advise no one to take them. I love sex and I don’t care if you are with a new person each night, but PrEP is a harsh medication. I am taking truvada and I have noticed unpleasant side effects since.
Again, Big Pharma needs to stop being greedy and bring out the cure once and for all! Fuck them.
curan
@Brian: Well, then, I’m sure that you can provide us an example of the best possible choices. Choosing to go to a bar can lead to alcoholism, so Brian agrees that he will never set foot in one (again). A single candy bar can lead to obesity, so Brian must swear off sugar forever. And choosing to read a gay website can lead to HIV, so we will never he hearing from Brian again!
All of these behaviors, promiscuity included, follow the bell curve – the standard Gaussian distribution. Some are cursed to live in the tails, several standard deviations away from the mean.
This does not make them bad people, and this does not give you the right to judge them.
We all have our demons, and Brian – I’m sure yours are easily found. Show us yours before you curse another’s.
Giancarlo85
@onthemark: And nobody elected a troll like you to be here.
Stache99
@onthemark: @Homo Erectus: Stop insulting, Giacarlo85. His parents have been insulted enough.
Giancarlo85
@Stache99: Weak. Very weak. I never really said anything to you. But go ahead… beat your chest about how original you are.
onthemark
@Giancarlo85: That’s the 4th or 5th time you’ve replied to me since you vowed to “ignore” me. Am I off the official “ignore” list or what? Or maybe you just keep forgetting about ignoring me, the same way you always forget inflammatory posts you wrote only 4 months ago.
@Stache99: shhhhhh! I’ve long suspected that Giancarlo murdered his parents. (He’s quite an ageist, you know.) Probably poison, one of those mysterious South American toxic jungle plants.
onthemark
@curan: “And choosing to read a gay website can lead to HIV, so we will never he hearing from Brian again!”
Ah, we can dream.
Stache99
@onthemark: That and a real ra*ist POS. Thanks to Buttstud on another post for going back and posting some of Giancarlos’s hateful diarrhea of the mouth..
Dumb ass white people like you are so boring. You end up looking real ugly anyways as you age.
I’m not into shitty white guys at all
Why would I be chasing some ugly fat white loser
No Latino would ever fuck a fat g ringo loser like you.
Stache99
@onthemark: Although, I did enjoy listening to your exchanges with him. He’s so easily rattled. He takes the bait every single time. He might be an ageist bigot but he’s also funny as hell without with even realizing it.
onthemark
@Stache99: Yeah. He denied writing that stuff, which was only 4 months ago – “I NEVER SAID ANY OF THAT, PERIOD” – but then after the link proving it was posted, he STILL lied and said it never happened.
Weird that he’s so obsessed with fat white people. Ironically he lives in the only U.S. city where there ARE no fat white people. The only fat people in L.A. are Mexicans, lol.
I bet Giancarlo is on some “chubby chaser” site someplace. Actually “Saint Law” had a theory that Giancarlo is “built like a sumo wrestler.” That’s another plausible possibility!
onthemark
@Stache99: Thanks! Yeah, he always takes the bait. “Where are the authorities?” Oh my.
MinnesotaNotNice
@Aromaeus: Exactly right!
Giancarlo85
*yawn* I see originality is lacking on here.
I’m not into chubby guys. But if someone is, more power to them. I actually like more genderfluid. That is my only secret.
Giancarlo85
@Stache99: ButtCrude is a fake from a c*h*a*t website who recently disappeared.
Go ahead and believe the crap people post.
I guess it’s the “attack me time”. You two should just start jerking each other off… and get it over with.
Giancarlo85
And I’m not chubby. Not one ounce of fat. The thing I do admit tho is I’m very genderfluid. I’ve revealed quite a bit about me… maybe a bit more than I should lol 🙂
Stache99
@onthemark:Yup. She reminds me of a little psychotic chihuahua. Any slight and it’s instant..you fucking piece of shit ugly old white loser,,,yap, yap, yap. Lol
I don’t know if it’s because she’s fat, ugly, or just some white dude ditched her ass one time and it’s hell hath no fury like a women scorned thing. All I know is girls got more issues then any newsstand for sure.
Giancarlo85
*yawn* and the attacks continue.
Have fun at it. I’m not finding this interesting anymore.
@Stache99: Keep thinking PrEP will protect you.
ButtStuff
@Giancarlo85: Everyone else is a liar. Everyone else is wrong and you’re right. What a magical little bubble you’ve made for yourself. I’m just glad that you’re as ugly on the outside as you are on the inside. You really should do something about those giant hairy caterpillars you call eyebrows.
onthemark
@Giancarlo85: “Go ahead and believe the crap people post.” Oh I do, when it’s posted by Giancarlo85 and is available on Google forever. You’ve never claimed that someone hacked your account, so we know you wrote that stuff.
But I’ve noticed you being generally more polite lately, and even tossing in a “please” now and then!
@Giancarlo85: Re: genderfluid – (not something we can buy a can of at O’Riley’s Auto Parts?) – by all means, please join in on the nearby thread about Ten Sexualities where you might actually be some help. The usually sensible Cam is being a complete jack@ss over there!
Giancarlo85
*yawn*
And he had to make his grand entrance. I thought he was leaving? ButtCrude just always shows up. The loser never did anything on the c*h*a*thour asides harass others and give out death threats. By the way, I thread my eyebrows… probably a bit too much… it lasts longer.
Fake will always be fake. That’s the problem with these trolls.
Okay, you know what. I’m a ladyboy. Leave me alone already.
Giancarlo85
And I know I’m pretty. I don’t need to justify anything to anyone… especially not to a random c*h*at room troll that didn’t have a real pic.
onthemark
@Stache99: “She reminds me of a little psychotic chihuahua.” For shame. What do you have against Latino Canine-Americans?
onthemark
@Giancarlo85: To paraphrase Sondheim: “You’re so pretty and witty and genderfluid?”
Giancarlo85
@onthemark: LOL… good enough for me.

@Giancarlo85: https://youtu.be/-DIETlxquzY

@Stache99: Ha ha. I miss Sen. Franken’s previous incarnation. Another one that reminds me of Giancarlo is:
“It’s easier to put on slippers than to carpet the whole world!” – Stuart Smalley (paraphrasing none other than the BUDDHA, I think it’s an old Buddhist saying) – Giancarlo usually seems to be bitching that the world isn’t carpeted yet, so to speak.
@Giancarlo85: ummm… well I’m glad you’re in a good mood!
Giancarlo85
I’ll lighten up on here. I’m tired of fighting.

I think this one probably comes down to that of lifestyle. Not Gay men vs. Straight men. Most straight men can have plenty of sex partners in high school or college. But eventually they settle down, get married and maybe have once in a lifetime affair. Most gay men however don’t settle down, let’s be honest, they keep having multiple partners throughout their lives. These stereotypes Aren’t set in stone though! That’s what you have to remember….. There are plenty of straight men who cheat on their spouses throughout their lives, and on the other hand, there’s countless gay men who don’t have sex until after college! This add isn’t about straight men being reveered though as “studs”, this is about Gay men engaging in dangerous sex due to the availability of a new pill! We’re putting this community back about two decades! We might as well forget all the progress we’ve made with AIDS research if we’re just going to stop caring about it.
The add tries to bury the issue by masking it as “slut-shaming”.
