Not since the highly publicized wedding of power couple Dumbledore and Gandalf has there been this much marriage buzz on the grounds of Hogwarts.
A Harry Potter fan (that’s narrowing it down) proposed to his boyfriend at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, FL earlier this month, employing the best use of a 3-D printer we’re likely to ever hear of.
Derrick Walker got down on one knee in front of Hogwarts Castle and presented Garrett Galvan not only with an engagement ring, but a custom, golden, Quidditch-rific snitch.
You’d better believe Garrett, a fellow HP fan, said “yes.”

Derrick had to employ the services of a 3-D printing company to produce the soon-to-be family heirloom, and even had it engraved with Dumbledore’s eternal message to HP from beyond the grave — “I open at the close.”
Just don’t try and take the message as a metaphor for marriage. It’s pretty confusing — better to focus back to the awesomeness of the gesture.
Garret was reportedly in a mild state of disbelief, saying “Is this real? Is this really happening?” before saying “Yes.”

I’m all for love, and it’s a wonderful thing when you find a partner that you love and want to marry.
But enough of the over-the-top gay wedding proposals, with Harry Potter themes and flash mobs. We get it. We (gays) can get married now.
I guess I’m a bit old school when it comes to marriage proposals. To me that is something very private. You want to propose to me, do it over a candlelit dinner that you cooked (or at least had catered from a 5-star restaurant if you’re a bad cook. Hey!!! I have exquisite taste. Haha). I don’tl wouldn’t want a grand, public spectacle as a marriage proposal. Besides, what if the person being asked to marry wants to say no. Now you’ve put them on the spot.
Now, I’ve seen many same sex marriage proposals on YouTube that were very precious. The Dustin/Spencer flash mob marriage proposal in a Home Depot comes to mind. They may have been the one to start all of this. :-). But after hundreds of copycats, it’s getting a bit old.

I’m kinda over all of these public proposals… people stopping traffic to propose, flash mobs, over the top theatrics just to get down on one knee and make that lifelong commitment? Do you really need to bring in strangers to view such an intimate moment, just to get a few mentions on Buzzfeed, or HLN, or here? Heh… cute.

The LGBT community; in particular the gay community worldwide is guilty of glorifying youth, worshipping the physique which comes with youth and disdains everyone else; the fat and the older. West Hollywood, Miami and the Castro district area in San Francisco are littered with gyms and shops selling protein suppliers, tans and plastic surgery…Gay men in these gay ghettos look plastic and identical. They have perfect skin and teeth but their innards are corroded from being caustic towards anyone who does not resemble a gym hunk. It is a sad existence indeed.

As far as this wedding proposal, I don’t see anything too crazy. Straight people do it too. Oh and proposing over a candle light dinner is original? Copycat much? Some ought not to criticize what others do. If it works for them more power to them.

Some ought to just realize that people are going to criticize whatever the hell they want, especially when others make it public fodder to criticize. The internet is a big and scary place and if your feelings are prone to be of the rectum aching variety, then maybe a “safe space” is needed for you.
