Quick, name your favorite bi character on TV!
OK, name a bi character on TV.
If it took you way too long to name How To Get Away With Murder’s Annalise Keating and you couldn’t even think of a bi guy on TV, you realize how invisible bisexuality is in media.
Luckily, bi YouTuber Eliel Cruz just made a witty video on just why bi representation is so important in media. In fact, according to GLAAD, there are only fourteen characters on primetime TV that are bi (most of whom are women).
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Watch below, and keep hoping and praying that they make one (or both) NCIS: LA co-leads LL Cool J and Chris O’Donnell bi in time for sweeps. That would be worth watching.

All-time favourites: Tobias Beecher and Chris Keller.
With honourable mentions for Simon Adibisi and Vernon Schillinger.
All the above are also my favourite psychopaths. No connection implied.

So tired of hearing about so-called “bisexual invisibility”. The truth is you are only invisible because you choose to be. Perhaps if more bisexual men came out instead of marrying women and leading a straight life on the surface while looking for men on Craigslist there would be no “invisibility”. However, the truth is, most bisexual men don’t come out because they are afraid of the “gay stigma”.
Masc Pride
I can’t see a show like NCIS ever having two LGB leads, and I don’t hope for it either. It may be something gay people want, but there aren’t too many outside the community that would be interested, especially when you factor in that NCIS’ target audience is likely young to middle-aged hetero males who are already getting kind of tired of being ambushed with rather forced same-sex storyline twists. I think gay media has way more of a responsibility than mainstream media here. Gay media always wants to throw that “B” in the initialism but does very little to actually represent it, which seems rather opportunistic.
@PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID: Vern had a gay storyline? I think Beecher and Keller were supposed to be gay. They just realized they were gay in Oz. Think “DL”, not bisexual. Adibisi just raped people; I don’t think that counts as bisexual.
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
”Vern had a gay storyline?”
Mostly rape-y… BUT he kissed Keller and liked it. Definitely something there and long-standing
”Beecher and Keller were supposed to be gay.”
Did we watch the same fucking show ..Keller would and DID fuck anything!
Simon Adibisi had way too much sexy swag for a straight guy…he knew what he was doin!
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
and beecher clearly bi too

Again, prison rape doesn’t count as bisexuality. Beecher and Keller were basically Brokeback Mountain before Brokeback Mountain. Definitely gay.
@Ian Cescu: Actually, none of that is true. You’re also clearly confusing bisexuality with “DL”. Two different things. That “B”–that you guys looooove to claim as part of the community to boost numbers–only applies to those who identify as bisexual, not to those living a double life. The CDC even draws a distinction in those cases by using the term MSM instead of bisexual. Let’s also not forget that there are also lots of closeted gay men (also trolling Craig’s List) that have no attractions to women and still won’t openly admit they’re gay.

@PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID: Adibisi’s body… man. I was REALLY hoping for some Adibisi/Keller swirling

Well, here’s 2 suggestions to bisexuals (particularly in the public eye)….
1) Actually SAY you’re bisexual rather than hinting at it death, trying to create some superficial aura of mystery. There are some HUGE celebrity offenders here, some of them didn’t end up on that part of the spectrum (Megan Mullaly, Zoe Saldana).
2) Actually say YOU’RE bisexual rather than claiming everyone secretly is and you’re so enlightened and “open-minded”. That’s such a stupid, offensive fallacy that affects gay people in a MAJORLY damaging way.
3) Don’t act like gays are so privileged and you’re the red-headed stepchild of the LGBTQ community. This isn’t the oppression olympics and since you could be perceived and treated as heterosexual, you arguably could be the MOST privileged- so quit while you’re ahead.

i’m unable to tag names as the site’s formatting is fucked for me 90% of the time
anyway…i was not counting the rapes. if you watch the youtube [missing ones linked on vimeo] you’ll see the unexpectedly romantic kiss between keller and vern [the macbeth play ep, iirc]..also they have a sexual [at least] backstory together.
keller had too much vag even while in prison, let alone his ex-wives visiting..and flirtations with other women…to be gay rather than bi. i don’t know why your so invested in ”erasing” that..it’s very triggering for me.
beecher had a couple of het relationships ..his lawyer and a school teacher before coming back to oz
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
Schillinger’s sexuality apropos Keller is much more complicated….not straight

It always seemed like every TV character that was going to be gay or lesbian ended up being handed a hetersexual relationship later on in the show, and in multiple movies the characters were bi, not gay. The earliest, Billy Chrystal on SOAP. His gay character ended up falling for and marrying a woman. Steven Carrington on Dynasty, was gay, then married Heather Locklear. Neal on the Show Whitney, etc…
Scribe38
@Masc Pride As long as the story lines are strong people will watch. The Wire fan favorite character was a blk gay male named Omar. He’d rob people in one scene and be sucking d*ck in the next and everyone loved him. That show also had a blk lesbian involved in a long term relationship.
Oz was basically a gay soap opera and straight men watch because of a strong storytelling
Scribe38
@PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID: I agree Keller was definitely bisexual. He even went after the nun.

scribe38. yup and that fugly female prison officer..and the landwhale ex wife etc etc

Liberals are afraid of male bisexuality because it threatens girl power. You’ve got to remember that liberalism is based on the bisexual double standard wherein female bisexuality is considered “hot” but male bisexuality is considered “gross”. It reflects liberalism’s desire to flatter women at the expense of men, and to give women privileges over men.
It’s a gender war, basically.
Brian
You’ve got to also remember that male bisexuality empowers men because it enables them to turn away from the controlling influence of women. Here’s a little background: women use sexual consent to control men. Her sex drive waxes and wanes according to her monthly cycle, his is always strong. He needs sex more than she does but it is she who determines when it will occur.
With this background in mind, when a man has the desire and will to turn away from women, he basically leaves them powerless. His ability to turn to men after being refused sexual consent by a woman means that he can bypass her controlling influence.
This is why women tend to demonize male bisexuality at the expense of female bisexuality: they find the former threatening.
Female bisexuality, on the other hand, gives women the opportunity to prostitute themselves to men, and occurs whenever a woman’s need for a reward precedes all other needs. She will fake her bisexuality, basically, if there’s a reward in it.

@Scribe38: Never seen The Wire, but this Omar character sounds like a common thug. Can totally see why you’d gravitate towards such a character. I’ve never heard any other gay guys rave about him or the show. Oz was a series with dozens of main characters coming in and out, so one story line wasn’t going to make or break. NCIS:LA is much different.
Brokeback Mountain’s story line was pretty strong, but straight guys aren’t exactly setting their DVRs for it. I didn’t say people wouldn’t watch a show with a gay character. I said it’s highly unlikely that two MAIN CHARACTERS in a gay love story would appeal to NCIS’ audience. I get that you’re very insistent on always opposing me, but please take time to understand what I actually said BEFORE you go into contrarian mode. You misunderstand quite a lot.
Masc Pride
@PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID: I do remember the MacBeth kiss in the finale. I don’t think Vern or Adibisi were bisexual or gay; they were both all about power-trips and being alphas through rape. Beecher was definitely gay. Lots of gay men slept with and even married women at some point in life, so that doesn’t mean anything. Keller was a sociopath, so I guess it’s hard to know what his true identity was. I have all the seasons. Will probably watch again.
Dev.C
No visibility??? Nolan from Revenge was bisexual, I’ve probably seen better storylines for bisexual men on television than gay men because writers can always throw them into some stupid love triangle involving a girl.
Plenty of male musicians come out as bisexual, so you’re not that invisible, the other celebrities who may have bisexual tendencies are mostly likely already married to women and don’t feel a need to discuss it.
Hell bisexual/ heteroflexable men rule gay porn, there are more married straight men in the gay porn industry than gay men.

@Pistolo: You have no idea what the F**K you are talking about. The assumption is, if you’re a guy dating a woman and you say you’re bi, you MUST be a closeted gay! and if you’re with a guy, you MUST be Gay! People really don’t get the attraction with both sexes. I find the worst offenders are gay guys, they generally assume that if you say you’re Bi, you just can’t fully let go of your “Hetrosexuality” Believe me, I’ve had to explain and defend on so many occasions that I am genuinely attracted to both men and women! and narrow minded comments like yours prove the problem.

@Ian Cescu: I believe you misunderstand the reality of bisexuality. I’ve done erotic massage for 33 years and talk with all my clients about their sexuality. 80% are bisexual. 90% of the thousands of bisexuals I’ve spoken to become emotionally involved with women but like casual sex with men. Different dynamics. Why don’t they come out? The VAST majority because most women have a hard enough time accepting another woman in their life and another man is 100x worse!!!! Women and men are VASTLY different sexually and most women cannot understand or accept how a man could still love them and have a fling with someone else. This is the truth as I see it. BTW, most of the bisexual men I’ve encountered don’t have their first experience with a man till they are over 40.
paulbear30
Seems a bit redundant.
Morris
@Brian: Brian you’re trying to argue that women control men using their periods to deny sex? Firstly, you’re wrong in saying that men have constant libido. A woman might want to have sex with a man who isn’t in the mood for it. Also if you are in the position to have sex with a man instead of a woman (because you’re bisexual) you could equally just have sex with a woman (like if you were just straight). You’re trying to make women seem evil and manipulative towards men but you’re just making tons of false assumptions.
Morris
@Seattleguy: Maybe the men are just afraid that their partner would react badly? If they haven’t come out you can’t make judgements about women’s reactions to bisexuality because there hasn’t been any reaction.
Marky
@Morris: Stop giving women a free ride.

@Ian Cescu: You nailed it, man.
I’ve had sex with some bisexual men. Only two called themselves “bi.” They liked coochie (not sure if I can curse on here) just as much as dick. One guy was proud of his sexuality and shared it with his wife. One guy – African American and was closeted with it.
The other “bi” guys all hid their desire for men. I felt bad for them and the shame they felt.
I’ve a friend – seriously, a friend and not me – who was an escort. He said that 95% of his clients were married men. That’s a shame. For their wives’ sake, luckily my friend practiced safe sex.
Related, does anyone know, by the way, if Frank Ocean is bi or gay? People insist that he’s bi but the only things I’ve ever heard him say about his sexuality was that he was in love with a man and referring to gay men as his brothers in a recent Tumblr post.

@Masc Pride: I think Adebisi was bi or gay. Indeed he was about power tripping via rape (like some gay men in reality), but I think he was truly attracted to men. Just my feeling about the character.

@kernowcraig: Honey, I want you to relax and remember that when you respond with anger, people tend to shut down and not take you seriously or listen in the way you want to be heard.
I am a gay man and know, from life experience, that there truly are bisexual men. My experience has shown that there is a spectrum – the dudes:
– prefer romantic relationships with women and enjoy sex with men;
– prefer romantic relationships with men and enjoy sex with women;
– have equal enjoyment of romantic and sexual relationships with men and women.
I’m telling you this because I believe you. Also, you needn’t defend or explain yourself to anyone.
