Not everyone is a pasty white albino afraid of the sun. As for promotional pictures they may be airbrushed or maybe he uses a bronzer, it’s rather common in the swimming world.

I like Daley. I think he does very well in bringing up LGBT issues and fully supports the community.
However, is there any way possible he could be making this (what some would consider an needless) announcement just to be left alone at the Sochi Olympics? I mean, he is a rather public figure. It would actually be in his best (competitive) interest to come out as straight so as not to be so monitored or whatever at the Olympics.

You know, sometimes there are quite a few free tickets given out for each Olympics (military personnel, family members, past Olympians, etc.) and it is not uncommon for members of the summer Olympics to pop into the the winter Olympics and vice versa to support friends, run commentary, and general promotion of the next Olympics in which they would be competing – usually at the request of whoever is sponsoring them. You always seem to see Olympian who are not participating running around the opposite season games.
With that in mind, I wonder if Daley is planning a trip to the Winter Olympics in which case he would be there only as a spectator and celebrity… and would want to be left alone while he was there.
Or he could want to dive into cold water per @2eo… either/or.
