Tonight: Log Cab Republicans Reward Sen. Cornyn For Blocking DADT Repeal Vote

Tonight is the Log Cabin Republicans’ National Dinner fundraising gala, hosted by Tucker Carlson, which will welcome Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn. Yes, he’s the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee who yesterday voted against cloture to bring the Defense Department’s spending bill (and a DADT repeal) to a floor vote. For being such a wonderful hero for LGBT rights, LCR — which two weeks ago succeeded in getting a federal judge to rule DADT unconstitutional — will bestow Cornyn with the Barry Goldwater Award, which “recognizes leaders in the Republican Party who have served their nation with distinction in the model of the late Senator Barry Goldwater.”

Rep. Pete Sessions was also set to attend and receive the award, but has reportedly just pulled out “because of a House Republican caucus meeting that evening.”

Republican Reps. Judy Biggert, Anh ‘Joseph’ Cao, Charles Djou, and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen will also receive awards for being “steadfast supporters of the fight for equal rights.”

The entire evening “will honor [LCR’s] allies in its fight to create a more inclusive Republican Party.” And this is why you should never believe press releases.
