Totally Frightful Statistic: HIV In Black Comms.

magicJ.jpg
We’ve lifted this statistic from an article on Magic Johnson in The Washington Post highlighting his ten-city tour to raise HIV-awareness among Black communities.

The number of new infections — 40,000 a year — has not changed since 1990. But African Americans have plenty of reasons to be alarmed, since they account for half of all new infections despite representing only 13 percent of the population.

Now that’s some scary shit.

Good thing we have people like Magic Johnson – among others – spreading the word. Get tested and get the facts, because we really can’t bear the thought of things getting worse. For more information on HIV in Black communities, head on over to the People of Color in Crisis website.
