And while his new routine has him joking about his pro-gay cred—”My father was the lead singer in the Village People. I would sing the ‘Y.M.C.A.’ the loudest. I was sitting right there when he wrote the song, my daddy. The Indian was my godfather.”—he also told his latest audience, “Don’t ever mess with women who have retarded kids. Them young retarded males is strong. They’re strong like chimps.”
Then told a bit about dating a teenage “cripple” with a prosthetic arm, a mechanical larynx and a portable dialysis machine. Can we expect the American Association of People with Disabilities and the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to take Morgan to task next? Apologies are always so much better when they’re drawn out and public, right Anthony Weiner?

If it wasn’t for 30 Rock, Tracy Morgan wouldn’t be able to fill an auditorium for his stand up. He’d be another has-been on the heap of ex-SNLers who were at their funniest when someone else was writing their lines for them.
He’d be doing voice-overs for movies and not much else. His acting skills seem limited because he’s basically playing a version of himself. He’s no Sidney Poitier!
The irony behind SNL has always been that they pick people from an improv background and put them on TV with scripts. Sure, they’re good with the timing & the physical aspects of comedy, but those two things alone don’t make someone funny or insightful as a stand up performer.

I waited a few hours to check back. Still not a lot of responses, which illustrates the point I made about Hollywood, the media and the heat generated in the public about “controversies.”
No one gave a rat’s ass other than the random drama. The “OMG, did you hear!” factor. That’s how people like Mel Gibson or that guy from Two and Half Men got by for years with their shit. They just waited the controversies out until the public moved on.
Unless it is something truly juicy, and you don’t keep repeating the mistake- the lesson of this country is that if you are willing to wait a few days- people will forget why the fuck they were even mad with you in the first place. The country is nothing but Romans.

I’m with you guys. Many famous stand-up comedians do jokes of this nature (if not on retarded people, then mocking blacks, whites, Asians, gays, lesbians, whatever). Case in point would be two of my favorite stand-up comics EVER: Chris Rock & Margeret Cho.
So I don’t really see an issue here. Unless we are going to start protesting many other stand-up comedians working today! I guess there is just heightened scrutiny on Tracy now because his gay jokes went too far (although I confess that I still need to watch the video of that to see what the hubbub was about).

Tracy Morgan just sucks and no one in the biz can say so because he’s black. Hate to say this but I think it’s the truth. He just isn’t that talented — I don’t know what Lorne Michaels saw in him, really. Hopefully his career will tank. Good riddance to an ignorant not-so-talented homophobe.
