Trans v. MTA Get Go-Ahead

A New York-based trans lass got the green light for a lawsuit against the city's transit authority. The woman alleges that MTA staffers hurled epithets at her after she complained that her metrocord had malfunctioned. The MTA attempted to shield itself by saying the state's Human Rights Laws don't apply to them – we're not exactly sure why. A Brooklyn judge disagreed, saying, "By riding the subway, a transgender person doesn't become less of a person and lose the protection of the Human Rights Law." [NYDN]
