Nina Kanagasingham, a 34-year-old British woman accused of pushing transgender human rights lawyer Sonia Burgess (born David, pictured) in front of a tube train and killing her. The twist: Kanagasingham is undergoing gender reassignment herself. But because Kanagasingham has not fully transitioned, she is being held in a male prison, although she chooses to go by the name Nina and identifies as female. And yet in all the reports I’ve read, none of them indicate a motive.

You mentioned she’s trans, did you really need to tell everyone the name she was born with too? Jesus.
Alex
Queerty, you NEED to stop mentioning the birth names of trans people in ALL your articles! I believe that Barack Obama was born as barry, yet I’ve never seen you refer to this when he is mentioned in an article.

I hope what I’m about to type is seen as simple ignorance (which is the case) rather than insensitivity (which isn’t), but I never really considered that trans folks wouldn’t want their birth names mentioned. I learned something new today, so that’s pretty cool.

There is a real sickness on this blog. Here you have astory about a psychopath murderer and Queerty thinks that this is of some relevance to gay people simply because the straight murderer wanted to “transition” to a straight woman via surgery and hormones. And the response of Queerty readers is not to point out how offensive it is to associate gay people with a story like this and not even to denounce the brutal killing of a human being, but only to whine that the writer didnd’t conform to the latest “transgender” demands that journalists pretend that “trans” people have no birth names.
This is pure sickness. This blog is like some sort of fantasy dreamed up by Peter LaBarbera.

Why on earth are you linking to the account of this in The Sun of all UK newspapers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????
SteveC
Sonia Burgess went by the name of David at work. She was not in denial about her birth name so I don’t understand why people are so upset by mentioning it.
Rick
The Sun article said Burgess was transvestite, not transgender.
SteveC
Burgess’ family said that she was ‘gender variant’.
afrolito
Who cares about protecting the birth name of this psychotic freak murderer??
Rick
@afrolito: It’s not the murderer’s birth name that’s being revealed. It’s the victim. I think the question at issue is whether or not the victim self-identified as male or female.
afrolito
@Rick:
The victim is dead. I don’t think he/she is worrying about birth names anymore.
Fagburn
@SteveC: It’s interesting.
The statement from the family paid tribute to Sonia.
But she was still still working under the name David Burgess.
Oh and Afrolito, the accused is innocent until proven guilty in UK law…
Alex
@Samuel Robles: put yourself in my shoes. every regular newspaper mentions birth names practically as a rule, so it would be really really nice to have the queerest of papers not do it for once.

I knew my father as David Burgess i also knew that he/she had an additional transgender idenity as “Sonia”. Why are you arguing over such insignificant things. My father was proud and comfortable with what he was and made the world an easier place for all who are marginalised.
