Trouble…

HX Media took another blow last week when a number of New England Blade staffers were unceremoniously sacked and/or fired from the newspaper. Rumor has it the company owes thousands of dollars and is scrambling to keep its head above water. The New York-based company lost its short-lived Philadelphia outpost back in March. We'll get our funeral suit ready, just in case…[BIB]

And while I'm at it, what makes this different from how they've done things in the past.

Nothing new.

Anyone notice that HX dropped its lawsuit against one of the IN workers that was fired, Bill Bergren? Guess they just didn't want to pay attorneys fees for something that incredibly stupid.

It is no surprise to anyone who follows media that print – in any form – is a business facing challenges like never before. Layoffs are abundant everywhere within the industry – not just at the gay rags. Time Inc. is about to lay off another huge number of staffers and OUT and Advocate just sold for a song. Ad pages are down everywhere, in newspapers and magazines.

Kind of wonder what the folks at here! Networks were thinkin' when they bought into such a clearly defined dying business (Out & Advocate). Bad enough the network can't get any traction!

Anyone also hear that Next is going to buy HX, and put the pub to rest?

Gee, what a surprise. NOT!

The end has been coming for a long time now. I feel sorry for the employees who lost their jobs.

HX's mismanagement and colossal arrogance have sunk what was once a quality GLBT publication.

Oh well, there's always Bay Windows….and EDGE.

EDGE sucks? Get real – EDGE is the only place that I can go to get information on both San Francisco and NYC with the click of a button. Being bi-coastal, that just doesn't exist anywhere else…

HX was a for runner it started with a good dream & blossomed into a great big $ making empire . they worked hard to get where they did . i was a contrbutor in the early days it grew & grew then others copied like any other successful company there is only so much need & it became a competition . i cant imagine how all the advertisors can spread there $ around & be in all places at once .

THe answer to Hells Kitchen is this: for QUeerty, HX and Genre are hte only gay magazines in the world and the only reason they get the publicity they do is because Andrew used to work for them and hates them with a passion. Whic makes him kinda lame IMHO.

As for firing Bill Berggren, he finally admitted that n'touch (his piece of shit paper) has folded so no chance that is coming back. He's working for bay windows now and probbaly giving out a shitload of free ads to try and sink NE Blade.

As was mentioend before, the print industry is dying a slow death and there's not enough money to go around for everyone especially in this economy.
