@Angus: Perhaps the headline writer intended the term “sicko” to include creeps like Ovalle as well as, you know, bigots, fantasists, prudes, holier-than-thou’s.

We need a crash program to develop a religious/superstitious equivalent of methadone. Something we can give these poor jerks to help them work their way back to sanity.
Whether it’s the prots, the roman cult, islamists or whatever, people who worship in cults have a terrible record as child abusers and rapists.
A sane society would provide psychiatric care for these sorry superstition addicts, close their cult schools to prevent child abuse and rigorously prosecute the many child abusers and misogynist rapists in these cults.
Needless to say, this isn’t a particularly sane society. Look at how many preachers, lawyers, politicians and salesmen infest our society.

I hate to sound like a party poop here but I am bothered by these “sting” operations. This is why I do not bother with that gay internet/sex party invitation or internet dating b/s period.
Lord only knows who the hell it is that is setting you up. It is too easy to get the address and then go online to a site such as http://www.googleearth.com and see the neighborhood the “mark” lives in and set them up for whatever.
Those of you who have met good friends/lovers online are lucky and I wish you well. I came from the old school where face to face chance meeting are STILL the order of the day for us and if we just have to have anonymous sex then it is done at the bathhouse where there are other people around and a relatively safe place to put your valuables.
The chances of HIV/STD are no greater or less than having a total stranger you met online come to your house and give it to you there.
@Gurlene: The stings are designed for sexual predators of children, not for adults who want to get together and have sex (except, say, in Iran, where they target gay men this way).
Whether or not one is up for internet dating or hooking up online, it is a world away from the “To Catch a Predator” scene.

I was a Church person and I saw plenty. Religious Fundamentalism is a fascism that appeals to a certain pathology. Routinely, it attracts the unstable and the predatory. This is just one of many that got caught. The ones that don’t are infesting churches all over the world, Roman Catholic and Fundamentalist and every other type. The Church is an environment that encourages secrecy and male privilege. This is the cost.
