OK i m going to weigh in. Young guys over eighteen are not nambla bait. They’ re adults and deserve respect as adults. Because someone has good skin and fine features does not- should not make them pariahs or objects of scorn. I was a 15 y o looking twenty something, also and was pursued relentlessly while still being patronized and disrespected; it was not cool. Why the hate and derision. He is an attractive young man and you do not know him. i remember one BF saying,” Oh you have a mind, too.”

@#12… Oh the trials and tribulations of being a gay 20 year old looking like 15 year old man. Must be you were hanging with the wrong crowd if you were being pursued relentlessly while still being patronized and disrespected. IMO seems like you made some bad choices as far as friends and BF’s are concerned.
Young guys over eighteen who look and ACT like 15yr olds are nanmbla bait. Doesn’t matter how young you look, the way you act and conduct your life will dictate how others including friends and BF’s will treat you.

First things first, 20 is too young to have a fiance unless it is 1950 and you are pregnant. Second, if you have a 20-year old boyfriend who wants to explore his fantasies, guess what? He’s going to explore his fantasies with or without you. What other possible benefit is there to being 20 if not to explore? Get on board or get out of the way.

@phallus: it happened everywhere whether i was dating an Episcopal priest or a college professor. It was very difficult to find someone who wanted an equal. The” crowd” was average not skeezy. Just how it was. People stereotype and want to have fantasies and being a full human being interferes. A 20 yo old is an adult not a child and deserves respect– Nambla wants em younger than that.

Totally agree with the points above. 1)If you aren’t comfortable with sharing, then dating a porn worker is bad news. 2) he isn’t a child, just young looking. But it’s sad, to me, that with that adorable face and body, and seeming intelligence, his fantasy is to be in a dungeon. Maybe he should go hiking near Iraq so that he can get arrested and experience a real dungeon. I have enjoyed MORE THAN my fair share of group sex.. but the whole obsession with dungeons and slavedom is disgusting to me.

@Cuffs: @Cuffs: Why are you calling a sex worker a “model”? Just curious because I kind of agree, but not fully with others that the glorification of porn stars as actors is a little strange. Not because there is anything wrong with what they do (that’s the part where I depart with others) but because its really not modeling or acting as a career.

@Lefty: So newscasters and other tv personalities- say reality tv- are also in your mind actors?

Because one can go through the same list as I imagine you are going through. Models are anyone who appears in front of a camera to you? Are singers also actors if they sign a song on tv?

I think the reason why you want to change the name of what they are is because of your own issues with it. I don’t really care if they are doing porno. I just don’t consider it acting like going to movies, or watching tv or to the theatre. In order to say that it is, requires changing the definition so much that it ceases to have meaning like what I just did by claiming a tv news anchor is an actor.

@Interesting: I’m struggling to see the parallel between newscasters/reality TV stars and actors/models/pornstars – the differences are obvious, of course. Maybe you could better prove your point by drawing some major distinction between what actors/models do and what pornstars do, because the differences are still unclear.
The distinctions are almost always based on modern puritanism. Actors were considered little more than prostitutes in Shakespeare’s time – in fact, the Globe Theatre where his plays were originally performed was situated in the lowest part of town, largely frequented by prostitutes and pickpockets.
As Philip Roth famously noted, there’s something deeply unseemly about all artists (he was referring specifically to writers, but the observation could equally apply to actors) – people who hold art up in reverence seem to ignore this.

      Interesting

@Lefty: Your denial of the differences by artificially lumping categories together because of your own, rather than factual or definitional same ness, may have something to do with what you see. I am not in the business anymore of debating what people see. Michelle Bachman can’t see a lot of things either. In other words, both you and she are engaged in anti reason. You lump things together or explain things based on your belief rather than definitions and reason. Finally, I am not going to waste my time explain to some random guy on line why he’s engaged in anti reason other than it comes down to definitions of words.

    • Interesting
      Interesting

@Lefty: You know what – I got a couple more minutes. So let me do this.

      Simple logic construction

Actors at its simplest definition (the one that you are using to lump actors with porn stars) are people who give a performance for the public.

Of course, the problem with this sort of definition is that it can be said of any one else who gives a performance for the public. Whether a news caster, tv personality in reality tv, singers or whatever.

That alone can not be the definition. You can , of course, now claim “well but porn star pretend to be someone else.” Again that begs the question, are newscaster really being themselves or are reality tv stars really being themselves or playing a character?

The reason why we categorize things is to allow for finer definitions to understand what something is. The anti reason approach takes the broadest category, if that’s the best way to spin an argument, to claim “oh no I don’t see the differences.” Its one of those tricks of how true believers keep the faith. Its a form of sophistry.

    • Lefty
      Lefty

@Interesting: You made a broad statement that pornstars and actors are absolutely not the same. You then claimed that you had nothing against porn but have shown with every subsequent post that you do have some kind of problem, as you seem to think recognising the similarities between actors and pornstars is “glorifying” the latter. I simply asked you to make the clear distinction between the two, as it was unclear to me and you’ve gone off on a total tangent, equating me with Michelle Bachmann for christ’s sake – and all the time avoiding the simple request to explain how it is that what an actor or model does is different to what a pornstar does. If you can’t state simply why you hold the beliefs you do, then it’s you who is engaging in “anti-reason” – that’s simple logic.
As for your second post, you do realise that newscasters aren’t actually “performing” when they read the news, right?

The only convincing distinction to be made between actors/models and pornstars is by people who have a puritanical view of sex and by extension of pornstars.

      Interesting

@Lefty: Here’s the trick to the what you just did and why its anti reason: There is no reason to restate what I said other than to distort it that because my actual statements are there for anyone to read.

Just to give one example, I neither broaden nor lessen the definition of what a porn star is. No more than my saying a reality tv star is not an actor in the sense of how the word is use in its most accurate sense.

You don’t say why they are different in the broadest definition that you are using to equate an actor to a porn star other than making the statement that a newscaster or a reality star isn’t performing. You don’t say why they aren’t performing. They simply aren’t because why? Because you say so.

I equate you to Michelle Bachman because neither one of you can engage in an argument based on reason. Most Americans can’t -gay , straight bi or whatever.

      Interesting

@Lefty: By the way, the thing you add to the definition- reading copy off a teleprompter is something that both actors and porn stars do as well. So your definition of performance is just more broad language which means nothing. Its the kind of sophistry of “all human are animals. dogs are animals. Therefore, humans are dogs”

The same is true here “All actors are performers. Porn stars are performers. Therefore, porn stars are actors.”

      Riker

In a loose sense, actors are people who are paid to play a specific character or role for the public. Porn stars fit this description because they are paid to play a role, even if it is just the cute pizza delivery boy or something.

newscasters generally don’t fit this criterion because they are being paid for their journalistic skill, not for their hair or looks or ability to be a fictional character. Though, this has changed somewhat over the last few years. Walter Cronkite wasn’t a character, that’s just who he was. Katie Couric, his eventual successor, could possibly be considered one because of the way she plays up to the camera. Notice that it wasn’t until Couric took over that the CBS Evening News desk was modified to show off her very shapely legs.

As far as reality TV goes, most of them are actors, playing a role that is different from their off-camera personae

@Guillermo3: If you think “legitimate” actors aren’t drug dependent whores then you haven’t spent much time in Hollywood, but that’s a moot point – none of your generalisations about the character of pornstars prove that what pornstars do isn’t acting.

“There is a difference between making art[regardless of its quality]and prostitution.”

Not necessarily – I can think of instances where the two intersect. In the Realm of the Senses, one of the greatest “art films” in the history of cinema is also – by every definition of the word – Pornographic. But most “legitimate” actors aren’t making “art” anyway, they’re providing entertainment – yet you’d still presumably describe them as actors.
I appreciate the reply, though – I suspect “interesting” shares your puritanical view of sex/pornography, hence his inability to draw actual distinctions that don’t reveal this bias.

The distinctions between porn models and “legitimate” models are even more shaky – when you get down to it, there’s very little (if anything) that seperates what they do.

@Interesting: I don’t have an agenda, interesting. You asked Cuffs:

“Why are you calling a sex worker a “model”? Just curious because I kind of agree, but not fully with others that the glorification of porn stars as actors is a little strange. Not because there is anything wrong with what they do (that’s the part where I depart with others) but because its really not modeling or acting as a career.”

I asked you to do what you were asking of Cuffs, ie. outline the differences which brought you to your distinction that pornstars aren’t models or actors, which you’ve categorically refused to do. Unfortunately, this makes your request seem more than a little disingenuous.
The only distinction anyone has drawn is “Ewww, selling sex is yucky therefore pornstars aren’t actors or models”… er, no. Sorry.

      Interesting

@Riker: Well that’s kind of the point of why its weird to call them actors. If you got to use the “loose sense” of the word actor to argue your point, then in a loose sense so is reality tv star. Anyone can play this sophist game. This is what the right wingers do all the time. You are just engaged in your own version of that game. That’s why i find it strange. The whole point is that the definition when not used in a loose sense is not the same as porn star. No more than in a lose sense is a reality tv star. But I tire of this. The gay community is a full of orthodoxy as any other group in America. When dealing with straight african americans- I have to deal with them int erms of terms like civil rights and have this same go back and forth over meaning. A porn star is just a strange place to put your need to loosen up definitions on. Marriage and other fronts make sense. this one not so much in terms of cultural issues.

The difference is titillation Vs. satisfying.
A sex worker will take care of your needs… a porn
actor will get you revved up, and then you can either take care
of them yourself or get someone else to do it.

And, btw– got nothing against straight-up sex workers. Years ago, when single,
I went to one twice, and it was a terrific experience and got me
      over my fear of bottoming.
