CHARMING PRINCE

Two Gay Dads Among The Parents Invited To Royal Playdate With Prince George

Prince GeorgeAs part of their itinerary on their visit to New Zealand, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (aka Prince William and Kate Middleton) held a playdate for son Prince George and ten lucky couples whose kids were born around the same time as the royal infant. Among the couples: a pair of gay dads and their daughter.

Jared and Ryan Mullen and their daughter Isabella were chosen by the parent support group Plunket, which organized the event. Jared is originally from Oregon, while Ryan is Australian. The couple were selected as representative of the growing number of same-sex parents that Plunket provides services to.

The get-together marked George’s first public engagement. The couples all sat on the floor while the babies played with toys, including Isabella.

“In a way all we did was talk about babies,” Jared said afterwards. “The Duke and Duchess were lovely, they were both very relaxed and we chatted about our experiences as first-time parents.”

As for Prince George, Jared, said “he is a lovely little boy, very intrepid. The whole thing has been a huge privilege. It was lovely to meet the Duke and Duchess and share our beautiful children with them. They are both very lovely and loving parents.”
