Two Gay Soldiers Discharged Every Day

We knew that “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was negatively impacting the lives of gay and lesbian soldiers, but we thought the impact was mostly on their psychological well-being, in that they had to hide part of themselves. But it turns out it is ruining their careers, plus we just thought they were better at it than this.

A new study by the Servicemembers Legal Defence Network shows that two gay and lesbian soldiers get discharged every day, which is pretty counterproductive in the face of our military efforts all over the world. Even so, the 386 soldiers discharged last year on account of gayness are pretty much a drop in the bucket when you consider the alleged 65,000 gays currently serving in the U.S. military. Fortunately they now have hero of the people Nancy Pelosi on their side. Sigh, we’re getting depressed.
