Selling clothes is very rarely about the clothes themselves. It's about getting the name out there in the public consciousness.
How many blog posts and news items do you think have been written about this worldwide? A&F's exposure (pun intended) is going to be huge because of this, and that always translates into sales.

John, these catalogs used to be available here in the States, but the usual "concerned citizens" had them banned for obscenity. I have a couple and many of the shoots are really stupids, but there are a few really beautiful shots. It's lousy that the catalogs are no longer sold here.

What annoys me is that if you go to any suburban town, you see homophobic jocks wearing A+F clothing as they harass the effeminite kid in gym class or push him in the hallway. Of course these same jocks have nipple piercings and tattoos on their lower back.

A&F used to be cool in England about 8 years ago.
You had to go to the States to buy their stuff – so by wearing it boys thought they looked like they were moneyed, sophisticated, "travelled" etc.
