Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni Wins Re-election, Supposedly

With 68 percent of the vote, rap star and Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni has been re-elected president, extending his 25-year reign another five years. A Ugandan election wouldn’t be without claims of fraud, and Museveni’s losing challengers, including Kizza Besigye (who received 26 percent), have refused to recognize him as the winner and already threatened to mobilize the masses in protest, given the “intimidation, bribery and very clear ballot stuffing” allegations. In turn Museveni, who supports many key elements of the Kill The Gays bill, has promised to jail anyone who attempts to mimic what transpired in Egypt in recent weeks.
