As the roommate of a viticulture/enology major, boxed wine may be tacky, but it compares well with bottled wine of similar price points, years, and regions.

Plus, a guy thought I was cute for drinking wine out of a 375ml box with a straw like a juice box. Tacky sure, but still…

@TikiHead: I’m with you. A friend of mine gave me a “wine box” at a party, and it was really tasty. The keg was flat as it was, and as I sat with two friends also with their wine boxes, we had a great conversation. The college party drink for the non-hedonist.

Sunset Magazine had an article about box wines — apparently the wineries have had a glut of excellent grapes, and have been moving into the boxed wine market with really good wine.

Its not the box itself that counts, but the quality of the wine that goes into the box. Air sealed containers actually are better for the wine, but you need to put good wine in the box. Up until recently the only wine that went into boxes was swill. As the wine gets better, then boxes will become more acceptable.
