And we are telling you he’s not going.

Alex Newell, who plays trans student Wade “Unique” Adams on the Fox series Glee, has just inked a record deal with Atlantic Records. Newell will release his debut album on Deep Well Records, the imprint of Glee‘s executive music producer Adam Anders who seems very, very excited to have him.

“While working with Alex on Glee, I immediately realized how broad and unique his talent was and knew that he would be a great addition to the Deep Well/Atlantic Records family,” said Anders.

A breakout star on the now defunct Glee Project, Newell was initially signed to a two-episode arc on Glee, but started appearing more when his character was well received, leading to a solid series regular role on the current season of the hit show.

A fan favorite, “Unique” specializes in sassy, soulful takes on divalicious classics on Glee, and Newell has been known to sing the hell out of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” while touring pride events across the country.  For now though, the focus is on Glee and his first album.

“I am thrilled to join this new family and take another step in my career,” said Newell. “Singing is my passion and to now have the opportunity to make my own music is a dream come true! I can’t thank my new Atlantic and Deep Well family enough for welcoming me with open arms.”
