VIEWPOINTS — “For myself, all these years, I never thought about it in terms of changing the laws. Giammetti and I found our own way — nothing conventional — and it was always friendship first, always the most important thing: the friendship. I am neither for it legally, or against it, so I have no personal agenda here.” —Fashion designer and tanorexic Valentino [WOW]

What a douchebag.

There are a lot of people who don’t believe in the institution of marriage period.
Why is it that someone deserves hate speech for not supporting a cause that you expect them to, simply because of their sexual orientation?
Really, what is Valentino saying he supports gay marriage doing to do to make it happen? Really.
kevin (not that one)
It is not a legitimate stance to be “post-gay” in a gay-oppressive world.
Rich fashion designers like Valentino are as out of touch with the people as the Vatican.

@wesnemenz: Stop it. He’s being a mealy-mouthed pussy like so many good “house gays” who don’t want to rock the boat. You don’t have to believe in the institution of marriage for yourself to man up and advocate it for someone else’s happiness and legal protection.
“I am neither for it legally, or against it, so I have no personal agenda here.”
Orly? You have some kind of lofty removed neutrality where the civil rights struggles of your gay brothers and sisters don’t muss your coiffure while you lounge on your yacht in the Mediterranean with your male model boy toys? How dignified. And cowardly. Stronzo.
“Really, what is Valentino saying he supports gay marriage doing to do to make it happen? Really.”
And for the life of me, I can’t make heads or tails what you’re trying to say here.

He probably doesn’t want to offend that ridiculous pope. I recall several years ago when he refused to take part in an AIDS benefit in Italy. His said he would only be part of an AIDS benefit if it was for the innocent babies.
I hate him.
BTW- Does this man own a mirror?

While it isn’t necessary to be out front and carry a banner in every parade, he and others like him do a disservice to fellow human beings by staying “neutral” on the issue of basic rights, rights that are automatic to others by virtue only of sexuality, nothing of any basis of factual content. Must be nice to “find a way” and have the means to do so. Most do not have the protection of the “elite” of the world. Yes, not all believe in marriage, but it isn’t even marriage that is the issue…it is the FACT that a right given to another automatically is either not given, or has conditions placed on it, based for the most part on a distinct illegal action against our constitution’s structure, that being seperation of church and state. All this hullabuloo is just so much smokescreen for that very fact…throwing the word God (who’s God, by the way? There are many dieties worshipped, not just a Christian one, as much as the very vocal peeps don’t want to accept that)into the mix, which has been done repeatedly, just solidifies that. Basic legal rights can not be denied based upon a religious foundation. Cannot for the life of me figure out how that is so discarded.
Mr. “found a way” should ask himself what would he do if he weren’t allowed to make a living designing because of his sex? What if couldn’t live where he wanted? What if he were assaulted or harrassed because of his sexuality? Oh, wait. That shit happens day in and day out, but has improved, if ever so slightly, because people “found a way” that helped their fellow human beings, regardless of whether it directly affected themselves and their choice of not staying “neutral” certainly helped him to able to do what he does with a bit less fear. Honestly, no one’s asking everyone to be an over the top activist burning things down, but a bit of empathy for your fellow humans and their rights is not too much to ask when you have benefited from those that have gone before and done so.
I’ll shut up now….
