Vassar College To Welcome Cockyboys Founders For Panel Discussion On Gay Porn

CockyBoys-Jett-Black-JD-Phoenix-bum-bedThe mainstreaming of porn continues, this time in the field of academia as the historically queer liberal arts haven, Vassar College, opens up its arms, and presumably legs, for the owners and “throuple” behind gay porn studio, Cockyboys.

The impetus for the discussion comes from a 2012 New York Magazine article about the polyamorous relationship between Jake Jaxson, Benny Morecock and RJ Sebastian — the founders of Cockyboys. Inspired, the class of 2014’s Jack Levinson wrote a play based on the article, Gay Sex, and he will do the honors on October 24 when he leads the panel discussion.

According to Vassar’s website, topics of conversation will include “polyamory, representations of sexuality in art, and the legitimization of the pornographic medium.”

Cockyboys is known for blurring the lines between mainstream and adult entertainment and in a year where Lindsay Lohan shares screen time and bad reviews with James Deen and Nick Gruber is a person and/or personality, it’s like the halcyon days of the early 70s. But gayer and with meth. Back then, Deep Throat crossed over into popular culture and suddenly everyone and their mother — literally — was going out on the town to see a dirty skin flick.

Today, the internet — the great equalizer that it is –brings porn to your fingertips…and other regions. To wit, yesterday I “accidentally” stumbled onto some Vines* of gay porn stars “on the job” as it were during what I’m pretty sure was the Hustla Ball. It’s that easy. Little bite-size clips of porn for your amusement. Or spank bank.

Meanwhile, porn’s big mainstram breakthrough — or society’s increasing acceptance that people do indeed have sex and maybe it’s not anyone’s business — is bound to ruffle a few feathers, but it’s also nice to see it generating actual discussion. And Jake Jaxson for one is happy to spread the gospel.

“I’m thrilled and honored to be speaking on a panel at Vassar College in the first place, let alone one centered around CockyBoys and my family,” Jaxson said in a press release. “I’m really looking forward to having a thoughtful and genuine conversation about all the great possibilities that still exist in this medium known as adult entertainment .”

Should they run out of topics of conversation, may I suggest one that’s very near and dear to my heart: the awful state of gay porn stars’ tattoos. Paging through those Hustla Ball photos, I got a sense of what Ed Hardy would look like if it was a disease. And it’s not pretty.

If you happen to be in Poughkeepsie, say hi to my childhood home and check out CockyBoys at Vassar: Throuples, Gay Porn, and the American Dream — tomorrow, Thursday, October 24  at Vassar’s Sanders Classroom 212-Spitzer Auditorium, 5:30 pm.
