Monsignore Krzysztof Charamsa, the Polish priest who was recently fired from his job on the heels of coming out, claims that his decision to publicly admit his sexuality was “an act of desperation,” reports BBC.
Earlier this month, Monsignore Charamsa came out — and chose the lead-up to a synod (being held in Rome to discuss, among other things, homosexuality) to do it.
“We must think about all families,” he opined, “not only families like my (heterosexual) parents.”
The Vatican described his actions as “very serious and irresponsible” but insisted his dismissal had nothing to do with his homosexuality but was due to the timing of his announcement.
How about we take this to the next level?

This hypocritical priest was not fired for being gay; but because he has a partner and broke the vow of chastity he said he would take when he became a priest.
sportsguy1983
He was no celibate. That is the reason he was fired. Catholic priests, whether straight or gay, are NOT allowed to have a sexual relationship. Those are the rules and plenty of straight priests have been fired and defrocked for having relationships with women.

Sorry – he was fired for being in a long term relationship and admitting it! He may get an ultimatum from his diocesan bishop and be defrocked!

It is a terrible way the Catholic Religion is treating gay people. The bible teaches acceptance and love. The Catholic religion has strayed so far in the priest pedophile and gay cover ups it is sickening. Let’s be open and honest as the truth sets you free

I’d say it was more an “act of stupidity” than desperation. This guy intentionally planned his “coming out” to embarrass the Church then acted shocked that he was fired. Moron! You decided to join an organization where celibacy is required then plan a press conference to announce you’ve violated the rules. What did you expect?!

Can’t stand the catholic church…bunch of sick bastards (at the vatican level). This priest “coming out” really screwed up because as that bitch Kim Davis took an oath, this guy also took an oath (or vow) to that despicable church. A vow of chastity. The church’s statement about “timing” is another typical assanine comment by the church. They do have the right to be rid of him for breaking his vow of chastity. I wholeheartedly support his stand on coming out, but unfortunately he did so and announced he had a partner as well…

What about all the Vatican officials that enjoy a stable of call boys? Guess that doesn’t count.
Or all the queens in the Vatican that spend evenings downloading gay porn? Guess that doesn’t count either.

I wish more priests “came out” as sexually active. We’d have none left. And the Church would collapse, or change. Praise da’ Lord! Amen.

@martinbakman: Most of them are not gay; but are ped0s.

I think a lot and maybe even most catholic priests were raised in very catholic homes. When in their childhood they realized they were different, they probably did things like try to pray it away. When they realized they were indeed gay and it wasn’t going to change the only way to stay acceptable to their family and church, and to escape the classic catholic life of a wife and children, was to become a priest. If they were a priest, they wouldn’t need to deceive a woman and keep her from finding real love. They wouldn’t disappoint their parents or their church by becoming a priest. So this is the path they took.
Those decisions were made by young men still very dependent on their parents and who had not been exposed to life outside the church. It is a desire to be a good boy” that leads gay men to become priests. I have sympathy for that view. I’m a total atheist and was considering that as an option. I couldn’t stomach religion so it was never going to happen but the thought ran through my head.
I’m glad they threw him out. I’m sure he is a wonderful person and although I’d love it if he rejected the church entirely, he can also take the path of moving to a different faith where he is accepted. I hope he continues to talk to his catholic brethren though and remains visible so boys will see hiding as a priest will not work for many of them in the long game.

This is a disgrace to the church, they are pushing more and more away at a time when pews are empty as is if there is a sale at the swap meet. The church are hypocrites. I can’t help but being reminded of the role of checkers played by the church with pedophile priests and the cover up.
On a side note: Pat Robertson is telling gay people not to bring their partners home for Thanksgiving. When is this old coot going to keel over and slide down the chute to the place of flames?
Kangol
His dismissal was and is absurd. He decided to come out as a mature gay man in a consenting adult relationship, not as a closeted or DL priest and certainly not of the raging pedophiles who infect the Roman Catholic Church, so his actions were deemed unacceptable.
Meanwhile that church continues to cover up pedophilia and ephebophilia, it aids and abets closeted and DL priests and bishops, many of whom are virulently homophobic, and actively supports anti-gay laws and politicians. Not a single one of these actions squares with the model of Jesus Christ’s life in the New Testament’s 4 Gospels. NOT ONE.
Pope Francis really should admit that he’s as bad as his rabidly anti-gay, pedophile-helping predecessors, no matter what his personal feelings on individual gay people, like his “friends” in DC, happen to be. DISGUSTING.
alphacentauri
@Kangol: Why are you making up excuses for this hypocritical priest? This has nothing to do with him being gay, and everything to do with him not being celibate which he knew was required of him when he became a priest. It would be the same thing if he was heterosexual and said he was living with a woman as a partner. I do agree with the rest of what you wrote about the Roman Catholic church but they’ve been ped0s and ephebophiles for centuries, and what you wrote about Francis is true as well and he even completely supported the genocide and killing of Argentinian people in the 70s and early 80s.
Joe
I may have come into this world as a Catholic but I am not going out as one. The Catholic church churns my stomach. Hypocrisy at it’s best.
