I can't help feeling he's gay. I know that's a knee jerk reaction to his politics. But I just get the gut feeling that Jim Douglas is gay. Can't you picture him in a bathhouse with nothing but a towel on?

I have shaken his hand a few times and he has the limpest wrist... not that there's anything wrong with that.

Douglas just got elected to his fourth 2-year term. Many are thinking he's getting ready to move on, sensing that the electorate might be ready to move on to someone else. So, rather than give the right a rallying call, thus splitting the party at the next election, he'll let the bill go into effect claiming his hands are tied.

I love these "take back" campaigns. Talk about appealing to the ignorant. As if there weren't already Native Americans here. As if Gay people didn't exist before now. As if Christians, however benevolent or not, majority or not "own" the country. PUKE.

someone should ask the governor if he would be willing to trade in his marriage license for a civil union license.

@<a href="#comment-131833" rel="nofollow">Runnin'</a>: Firestorm is right. The opposition mounted signs saying "Take Back Vermont" all over the state--and it gives the "Take Back America" campaign a distinctly bitter tinge for us gay Vermont dems/libs.

Vermont is one of the most liberal states in the United States, how quickly many forget that it was the first state to offer significant status to homosexual couples which set off a firestorm. Douglas, in many respects, isn't a traditional Republican as social conservatism has almost no home in New England. He can oppose it, but I doubt he would date to veto legislation making gay marriage legal - it would easily be overridden by the legislature.

The fact that he wouldn't say what he would do COULD be taken as a good sign . . . he doesn't have to sign it for it to become law, he just has to NOT VETO the bill and it will passively become law without his approval. Here's hoping. . .
