Victoria Kolakowski Declares Victory, Becomes America’s First Openly Trans Judge

Congratulations to Victoria Kolakowski, 49, who is now the nation’s first openly transgender judge elected to the bench. Kolakowski declared victory in the closely watched race for the Alameda County Superior Court seat in California, beating opponent John Creighton with 51-48 percent of the vote. The final tally must still be certified, but Creighton has already admitted defeat and congratulated Kolakowski.
