I literally used to see ads like that in Germany all the time when we went out on the economy… naked women and all. Kids would just walk past them and go on their merry way. Maybe Hanau was just a little more liberal or Americans are still hung up on sex and this is why so many people grow up with fucked up perceptions and fail to explore their sexuality and let it fester into a toothless hick destroying a bus stop display while showing his marine tattoo and lack of dental hygiene and poor education on contraception.

@Alexis Barros: I’m leaning towards your point of view. When seeing this video, I said “It looks a little too flat to be San Francisco.” It reminds me of the days of the old Times Square, NYC. I’m a little uncomfortable seeing it on a bus stop — in a paper or magazine, no problem. However, that could be a product of my conditioning. (We’re all subject to cultural conditioning no matter how oppressive it might be to us personally.) It appears the videographer is actually agreeing with the vandal. Notice the vandal making sure the video is taping.

Sometimes i just wish that people would stop thinking about the money and think collectively about the greater cause.
The advertiser will have known that this advert in this place would cause trouble and publicity(for its service), but also the negative publicity of gay people as the commonly stereotyped, perverted predators only interested in sex, yet they cynically went ahead.
They may provide a service for gay people but they have not done them a great dis-service with this stunt. They are just as bad as the gay-hating companies. Gay people should boycott the company.

Sooooo…all of the 1-900 billboard ads in the 80s and 90s, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue ads, all of the straight ads with tits and daisy Dukes were/are “appropriate,” but Squirt’s isn’t. Well, sun shines, wake up to the reality that this isn’t YOUR country, it’s OURS. As long as advertising is allowed, you can’t control its placement or (within limits) content. And they paid for the spot; it’s not like they ran out in the middle of the night, pasting up posters willy-nilly in the nude!

I can see where the ad might make a closeted homophobe uncomfortable, But it doesn’t show either individual below the waist and they aren’t even kissing. This is no more pornographic than a similarly themed straight ad would be. If this were in fact pornographic I could understand people having a problem with it. The actions of this man only prove how intolerant society can be. If the same exact ad featured a male with a female this man, and most of the rest of society wouldn’t even give it a second thought. He wouldn’t have smashed it, he probably would have gotten a b*ner. And not because of the female. That’s the only way these homophobes know how to rationalize there issues. In 1985, Health Crisis Network, a fledgling not-for-profit HIV/AIDS service organization asked a local successful gay businessman, Frank Wager for help staging a fundraiser. The goal was to generate desperately needed funds to help combat a disease that was running rampant through the gay community. With this goal in mind, Frank and his committee of ten volunteers began working on “The White Party™” concept.
From the beginning, the committee wanted the party to symbolize community solidarity in a way that was non-political and non-combative. White was chosen for this reason as well as for its purity and elegance. As the planning continued it became obvious that there were few venues in Dade County suitable for such an elegant event. Fellow committee member Jorge Suarez recommended Villa Vizcaya as a possibility since he was a member of The Vizcayans, a not-for-profit organization that helps raise funds for the continued restoration of the Estate and its Collections.

Megahood was organized by Kathleen Connell and Michael Valerio , two neighborhood activists who cared a lot more about protesting gentrification than they did about promoting the BDSM lifestyle. (Ms. Connell’s history of the Folsom Street Fair should also be considered required reading.)
“The first fair was leather-friendly, but it was not a leather event,” Dr. Rubin said. The largest attraction at the fair was a 200-foot line-up of restored vintage muscle cars. Other booths offered handmade pottery, crystal renderings and ceramic ware.
The musical headliners were Jane Dornacker and the Geraldine Ferraro All-Star Emancipated Blues Band. Marga Gomez performed at Megahood on the Folsom Stage. Even someone called the Concerned Republicans had a registered booth at the first Folsom Street Fair.
“Only 3 booths were identifiable as kink or kink-related” at Megahood, Dr. Rubin reports. Those were the Society of Janus, the Golden Gate Motorcycle Club and a now-defunct retail store called Sunset Leather.
It was called Megahood and not changed to Folsom Street Fair until 1991.
