Things are really not going well for Fairfax City Mayor Richard “Scott” Silverthorne, who was just arrested for offering meth to cops in exchange for sex. This is not your standard “homophobe caught being gay” scandal — Silverthorne actually seems like a good guy. He’s done a lot of nice things for the city, from improving green space to facilitating homeless services, and he was in favor of marriage equality.
He’s also been struggling with a cancer diagnosis, and filed for bankruptcy last year. He was also recently laid off from a job recruiting for the National Association of Manufacturers.
So, yeah, tough times all around. That’s not to say that turning to meth is a great way to deal with those problems, but all of that plus the pressure of being the major of a city certainly could take a toll on a man — especially if he felt he couldn’t turn to anyone for help.
And now this: ops got a tip that he was on a gay hookup site, and set up a sting. Why did they set up a sting? Let’s hope that the drug allegations were part of the tip, and not that the police were simply trying to gay-bash the mayor. At any rate, they arranged a hookup in a parking lot, and shortly after the mayor arrived, two meth supplies came by and he facilitated a transaction.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
The whole story, from the cancer to the bankruptcy to the layoff to the arrest, is just so sad — hopefully, the mayor has friends and family in his life who can support him and guide him to the help that he needs to deal with all of his concurrent challenges and poor choices. And if not, well, that’s when the gay community is at its best: recognizing when one of our own has fallen on hard times and make mistakes, and encouraging them to turn the corner to recovery.

Big Whoop. Simple bust of a PNP ad and the cops were probably gitty with excitement when they discovered their catch.
CWM85
Whole story not being told he is also a Hillary supporter… and queerty you sure have your role models ser nicely for gay commumity. Smh.

Sounds to me like the guy has fallen in some hard times and has made some unwise choices. I think we’ve all been there ( maybe not with the meth). I feel bad for him I hope he can pull himself out of this ok.

@CWM85: what the hell does this have to do with Hilary. God you republicans are batshit crazy
jheryn
@CWM85: I will never understand the fanatical stupidity of people like you who try to associate politics with ANYTHING.
I don’t care what party or candidate you support. Not everything is about F#&*ing presidential politics. STFU already.
Kangol
@CWM85: Yes, he’s a pro-gay Democrat. He badly screwed up, though were he not mayor this probably wouldn’t make the papers. (Or he might not even have been arrested given how many people engage in PNP without penalties.) But if you makes you feel better, yes, he is a pro-gay Democrat and supporter of Hillary Clinton. I hope he gets the help he needs; he’s gone through quite a lot of negative things (job losses, serious health issues, etc.) in a very short time.
Stache
@jheryn: From now on it’s..thanks Hillary from the blame everything on Obama crowd.
BriBri
Now he can join the group: Meth Heads for Hillary.
monroerob69
If this guy was a Republican, you’d be bashing the shit out of him.
Kangol
@monroerob69: If he were an anti-gay Republican. So many of Republicans are anti-gay. You get what hypocrisy means, right?
Brian
The mayor has been through some bad times lately and I do have some sympathy for him.

May I suggest doing a bit more reading about this particular mess if you are going to discuss it. He was not arrested for gay sex, or even for paying for sex – but rather for using a gay dating cite as a cover to distribute Meth. So, this man was a drug pusher. It is well within the realm of possibility that he was emulating that awful show about the meth dealer due to his cancer – but he was dealing, and quite possibly pushing Meth. That is absolutely beyond the pale. I oppose all recreational drug use and distribution, and particularly oppose pushing. I do not support legalization of anything. We already have millions of alcoholics and 25% of our citizens addicted to tobacco, which is slowly killing them – we do NOT need anything more that can be abused available. Thanks for playing. The man’s cancer should be treated, yes – but he should go to prison, and stay there.

Drugs make people do stupid life wrecking things. Haven’t people gotten the message yet?
DCguy
@CWM85:
Oh fun, Alistair set up another fake screename.
Stache
@Hermes: If he was offering the drugs for sex how is that “pushing drugs”? He’s not a drug dealer.
Curtispsf
@Hermes: So YOU oppose all recreational drug use and advocate prison time for those caught using? Guess it’s time to start throwing alcoholics into prison “WHERE THEY BELONG”. You are a poor excuse for a human being. I advocate legalizing ALL drugs and treating addiction like the illness that it is. This has worked quite well throughout Europe. Shame on you for being such a judgmental a**hole.

And while we’re at let’s put all the Hillary rumors to bed.
Well of course Hillary killed thousands. Just as she strangled Vince Foster with her bare hands. The death of Foster was extensively researched in Mr. Ben Ghazi’s tell all book, but the sole copy of the manuscript was maintained on Hillary’s email server which she erased in response to a government subpoena.
There…are you satisfied now?
